No. 6 Florida State Holds Off BC In ACC Opener
September 19, 2019 | Women's Soccer
Sam Smith scored twice but the Seminoles held off the Eagles' comeback bid in the 5-4 offensive affair.
For the ninth consecutive game, the Eagles opened the scoring. And while FSU responded to Smith's 11th-minute score with two unanswered, Mitchell's fourth goal of the season in the 40th minute sent the game into halftime tied, 2-2. The Seminoles would score first in the second half but it would be Smith with the response this time, heading home her seventh of the season. FSU, though, scored twice in two minutes to take the game's first two-goal lead in the 70th minute. Down but not out, Vaughn scored for BC with less than five minutes to play but it would be the game's final goal.
Allie Augur finished with a season-high seven saves for BC while Caroline Jeffers had four for FSU.
Boston College will now return home for two ACC games, hosting Miami on Thursday, Sept. 26 and Louisville on Sunday, Sept. 29.
