Eagles Take ACC Home Opener Over Miami
September 26, 2019 | Women's Soccer
BC topped the Hurricanes, 4-0, for the team's first ACC win of the season in the conference home opener.
NEWTON, Mass. – The Boston College women's soccer team topped Miami, 4-0, to earn its first ACC win of the season on Thursday night at the Newton Campus Fields. Gaby Carreiro scored the game-winning goal, and Olivia Vaughn added a second-half brace while Sam Smith collected her eighth goal of the season.
It took just one minute of play for the Eagles to score – with Jade Ruiters earning a penalty kick and Gaby Carreiro converting from the spot – and that would be it for scoring in the first half, with Allie Augur stopping the lone Miami shot and Melissa Dagenais making three saves for the visitors.
Two minutes into the second half, Vaughn put home her first of the evening for a 2-0 lead. Ten minutes later, the senior earned her second brace of the season before Smith headed home BC's fourth of the night with less than 15 minutes to play.
Augur (6-1-1) finished with two saves for her fourth shutout of the season while Degenais (0-1-0) finished with three.
Boston College will remain at home on Sunday, Sept. 29 to host Louisville for a noon ACC clash.

SCORING
- 1' | Though Dagenais guessed the direction of Carreiro's shot, the BC captain tucked her penalty shot out of reach and inside the right post.
- 47' | From her own defensive third, Michela Agresti served a ball into the middle of the field to Samantha Agresti who immediately turned and served a ball over the top to Vaughn going down the right wing. Vaughn took one touch and then lofted her ball over Dagenais' head to the far left post.
- 57' | Carreiro dribbled down the left flank before crossing a low ball to the front of the goal. Vaughn's sliding poke was able to redirect the ball past the sliding goalkeeper and back over the goal line.
- 76' | From the left side of the field, Jade Ruiters sent the ball back across the field towards the penalty spot where Smith was able to run onto it and redirect it with her head into the net.
- Boston College is now 12-3-3 in the all-time series with Miami and unbeaten in the last six meetings at 3-0-3 … the Eagles are 7-0-1 at home against the Hurricanes.
- BC held the 16-6 edge in shots on goal while Miami had the 5-2 lead in corner kicks.
- With her two saves, Allie Augur recorded her fourth shutout of the season.
