Nine Eagles Invited to USA Hockey Festival

Current Eagles Hannah Bilka, Hadley Hartmetz and Cayla Barnes will join six alums in Lake Placid.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Three current Eagles and six recent graduates have been invited to the 2019 USA Hockey Women's National Festival in Lake Placid, N.Y. as announced Tuesday by USA Hockey.
Emily Pfalzer '15, Alex Carpenter '16, Katie Burt '18, Makenna Newkirk '19, Kali Flanagan '19, Megan Keller '19, Cayla Barnes, Hadley Hartmetz and Hannah Bilka are among the players invited to the camp. Keller, Barnes, Burt and Newkirk were all invited to 2018 National Festival. A complete roster (58 forwards, 38 defensemen and 11 goaltenders) is available here.
The Festival, which takes place Aug. 5-13, is a training session that will also be used to select two 22-player rosters for a pair of series against Canada. The best-of-three Series will take place in Lake Placid from Aug. 14-17, with the U.S. entries featuring an Under-18 Select Team and Under-22 Select Team. Associate head coach Courtney Kennedy will serve as an assistant coach of the U.S. Under-22 Team.
Keller closed out her BC career this past season as a Patty Kazmaier Award Top-3 Finalist. The captain racked up 43 points on a career-high 19 goals and 24 assists to lead the country in defenseman scoring and sit tied for 14th overall to secure her second career Hockey East Player of the Year award and her third career First Team All-American honor. Newkirk, a two-time captain, was named the Hockey East Best Defensive Forward after finishing third on the team with 40 points (12g, 28a) and blocking a career-high 63 shots. Flanagan recorded 20 points (5g, 15a) and blocked 64 shots on the year. The captain, who earned a spot on the Hockey East All-Tournament Team, was whistled for just two penalties all season. Barnes notched 23 points on four goals and 19 assists to lead all rookie defenders nationally during the 2018—19 season and led BC with 74 blocked shots. Bilka and Hartmetz, who are both entering their first season on the Heights, are two-time members of the U.S. Under-18 Team.
During the 2018-19 season, Pfalzer skated for the Buffalo Beauts (NWHL), recording nine points (4g, 5a) in 18 games played. Carpenter played 28 games for the Shenzen KRS Vanke Rayes (CWHL), notching 31 points on 17 goals and 14 assists.
Most recently, Pfalzer, Carpenter, Keller and Barnes were members of the U.S. squad that won the 2019 IIHF Women's World Championship.
