Frelick, Morissette, Pelio all earn Perfect Game Freshman All-America honors.
OMAHA, Neb. – A NCAA-leading three Boston College baseball players were named to the Perfect Game Freshman All-America Team on Thursday morning. Outfielder Sal Frelick (Lexington, Mass.) and second baseman Cody Morissette (Exeter, N.H.) each earned their second Freshman All-America honor of the season, while right-handed pitcher Mason Pelio (San Diego, Calif.) became the seventh Freshman All-American in BC history.
Â
Morissette was recognized as a First Team selection by Perfect Game. Frelick and Pelio were both named to the Second Team.
Â
Morissette, who was previously recognized as a Collegiate Baseball News All-America Third Team pick and a Freshman All-American, hit .441 (26-for-59) in the second half of ACC play to hit .320 for the season. An All-ACC Second Team and ACC All-Freshman team pick, he led the Eagles with 20 doubles and 41 RBI. His 20 doubles are tied for seventh most in a single season at BC. Morissette capped his season by being named to the ACC All-Tournament Team. After hitting just two home runs in the regular season, he burst on to the playoff scene with two home runs in BC's championship-opening win over Clemson.
Â
Despite his freshman campaign being cut short due to injury, Frelick was named to the All-ACC Second Team and ACC All-Freshman Team. He hit a team-high .367 with 32 runs driven in and 30 scored. Frelick stole a team-high 18 bases and led BC with a .447 on-base percentage and .513 slugging percentage on eight doubles, one triple and four home runs.
Â
Pelio started his rookie season as the Eagles' Sunday starter before moving into the Saturday role midway through ACC play. He went 4-3 on the season with a 3.63 earned run average and 62 strikeouts in 72 innings. Pelio turned in seven quality starts, including seven innings of two-hit, shutout ball to clinch a series at No. 19 Florida State. An ACC All-Freshman Team pick, he got BC off on the right foot with six innings and one earned run against eighth-seeded Clemson in an eventual extra-inning win in the ACC Championship opener.
Â
Over the last four seasons, five Boston College players have pulled in Freshman All-America honors from various media outlets. Pitcher Jacob Stevens, a 21st round pick of the Diamondbacks a year ago, was the first in 2016 and Chris Galland, who was an All-ACC Third Team honoree last season, was recognized in 2018.
