The lacrosse team opens up the 2019 NCAA Tournament against the Buffaloes
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Following a first-round bye as the second seed in the NCAA Tournament, the Boston College women's lacrosse team is set to host Colorado on Sunday, May 12. First draw is set for 1:00 pm at the Newton Campus Field and will be aired on ESPN3.
Sunday afternoon's contest will be just the second meeting all-time between the Eagles and Buffaloes, only meeting during the 2015 regular season. The Eagles took a convincing 17-9 win, led by five goals from Mikaela Rix.
The Eagles have been out of action since suffering their first loss of the season in heartbreaking fashion, 15-13, to conference foe North Carolina in the ACC Championship game. The loss pushed the team out of their top-ranked spot, coming in at 2/3 through the next weeks' polls. The Eagles regained their spot following Maryland's similar fate - falling to Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship. BC earned the two-seed into the national tournament, their highest ever in program history.
The Buffaloes earned their way to the Second Round with a Friday afternoon defeat of Dartmouth, 16-13, in Newton. Colorado goalkeeper Julia Lisella kept the win on pace, tallying 15 saves on the day. Samantha Nemirov led the offensive effort for the Buffaloes, putting up a game-high five goals. Miranda Stinson followed closely behind with a four-goal, one-assist effort on the day.
The winner of Sunday afternoon's matchup advances to the NCAA Quarterfinals, set for next weekend.
