EAGLE RECAP
Competing without its No. 1 player Yufei Long, BC won both its matches by 5-2 scores last weekend to equal its win total from last season (13). The Eagles snapped Houston's six-match winning streak at home on Friday before beating Louisville on Sunday in Kentucky, improving to 3-7 in ACC competition.Â
BC dropped the doubles point to Houston but stormed back in singles with every player moving up a slot in Long's absence. Urbinati (6-1, 6-2) and Laura Lopez (6-1, 6-1) posted dominant performances in the No. 2 and 5 slots as the pair lost a total of five games. Kylie Wilcox faced Ndini Ndunda in No. 1 singles and fell in the first set 7-5, but came back to lose just three games in the final two sets. Elene Tsokilauri sealed the win for the Eagles in similar fashion, winning her final two sets 7-5, 6-2 to edge out Jovana Vukovic in the No. 4 slot.
In Louisville, the doubles point was extremely tight and came down to the No. 2 matchup as Lopez and Tsokilauri needed a tiebreaker to beat Raven Neely and Diana Wong 7-6. The Eagles stormed ahead 3-1 following another convincing pair of victories from Urbinati and Lopez in the No. 2 and 5 slots. Aleksandra Mally cut the BC lead to 3-2 with a three-set win over Tsokilauri, but Dasha Possokhova responded by losing just four games in her final two sets against Dina Chaika as the junior sealed the match.
