Tied at a 7-7 all-time series, the Eagles look to claim the lead on Wednesday
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The No. 1 Boston College women's lacrosse team is set to face yet another top-5 opponent as they play host to No. 5 Notre Dame Wednesday afternoon in Newton. First draw is set for 1:00p p.m. and the first 100 students in attendance will receive free pizza and a free t-shirt for Student Day. The contest will be featured on the ACC Network Extra.Â
The Eagles continued their hot streak with another win over a ranked opponent, taking down No. 7 Virginia, 16-9, on Saturday. Sam Apuzzo led all point scorers, tallying six goals and one assist for seven points. The senior earned her second ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors following her performance against the Cavaliers. Sophomore goalkeeper Abbey Ngai put up nine saves over the contest as the offense exploded to a 10-1 lead into halftime.
The Eagles and the Irish head into Wednesday's contest knotted at a 7-7 all-time series, despite the Eagles knocking them off twice in a row in 2017. The teams met twice during that season: once to end the regular season, a 16-10 decision in BC's favor and in the first round of the ACC Tournament, another win for the Eagles with a 17-14 final score. Apuzzo and Kenzie Kent combined for 18 goals over the two games.
The Fighting Irish have been climbing the ranks all season and currently hold a solid 10-1 season record, having only fallen to Syracuse by just one goal. Goalkeeper Samantha Giacolone racked up 14 saves in their last outing, a 9-7 victory over North Carolina. The senior's performance earned her the ACC Defensive Player of the Week title.
Following the midweek contest, the Eagles stay home to host No. 13 Duke on Saturday, April 6 at noon. The game will feature celebrations of Welles Crowther for the annual Red Bandana Game as well as celebrate the 40th anniversary of BC Lacrosse.
