Eagles Find Success Across Crews at the Knecht Cup
April 15, 2019 | Rowing
BC rowers competed in two-day event in New Jersey last weekend.
WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- It was a strong team showing for the Boston College rowing team as six crews took to the water for the Eagles on the Cooper River and three returned with medals. The two-day event consisted of heats on Saturday and finals on Sunday. The Eagles faced tough competition from multiple conferences including the AAC, A-10, Patriot, Lightweight, as well as fellow ACC competitor UNC.
The Eagles advanced three crews to the grand finals and two to the petite finals. In the grand final, the 2v4 placed second, the 2v8 third and the 3V8 won their event; all three boats brought home some hardware for the Eagles. The Varsity 8 showed solid and consistent improvement throughout the regatta from heats, through semi-finals and into the finals. Despite last minute line-up adjustments, the Varsity 8 placed second in the petite final (eighth overall), posting the sixth fastest time of the finals.
Head Coach Steve Fiske:
"The team showed a lot of grit this week and weekend. Lots of team members in and out with the flu and Friday lineup adjustments to every boat is the kind of thing that can kill progress. We did a great job rolling with the changes and working together to keep our momentum going [forward]. I'm proud of the way this team is determined to get faster every week." Â
The Eagles head back to work and have a weekend off to fine-tune before facing URI at home on April 27.
