Eagles Record Four Top-Two Finishes
CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The Boston College rowing team wrapped up competition at the Knecht Cup on Sunday with four top-two finishes against a deep field at Cooper River Park.
Â
"It was a really solid weekend overall for the squad," said head coach Grace Hollowell. "First off, congratulations to the 3v8+ for a great win and a gutsy race. It was a strong showing for 1v4+ and Novice 4+ as well with hard fought silver medals, and the 2v4+ placing second in their petite final through a tough progression. We saw some really good racing from the 1v8+ and 2v8+ as they battled some tough competition and a couple inopportune moments at the start of the finals to show some grit. Looking forward to getting back to work on Tuesday!"
Â
Boston College's Third Varsity Eight highlighted the day with a first-place finish in its final, outracing UMass, Wisconsin, MIT, Drexel and Connecticut. The crew finished more than six seconds ahead of second place UMass and over 30 seconds ahead of the last boat.
The Eagles also earned silver medal finishes in the Varsity Four and Frosh/Novice Four finals, continuing a strong showing across multiple boats. The Varsity Four crew finished two seconds behind first-place Drexel, ahead of Jacksonville, UMass, Eastern Michigan and Wisconsin. The Frosh/Novice four also placed second, finishing one second behind first-place Wisconsin and ahead of Robert Morris, MSOE, Delaware and Monmouth.
Â
The Second Varsity Four placed second in its petite final, finishing ahead of Villanova, Temple, Delaware and West Virginia. Both the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight advanced through the morning semifinals to compete in their respective grand finals. The Varsity Eight ultimately finished fourth in a competitive field that included Radcliffe, UMass and Bucknell, while the Second Varsity Eight placed sixth in its final.
