Eagles Earn Boston Win, Three Top-Three Finishes in Sarasota
SARASOTA, Fla. – The Boston College rowing team continued to build momentum Saturday, recording three top-three finishes at the Sarasota 2k and a first place finish back in Boston.
Â
"Great to get more racing under our belts, both home and away! Lining up against proven, fast crews is not only fun, but also makes us faster," said head coach Grace Hollowell. "Despite not much water time, it is nice to see each crew building from race to race and identifying where we can gain speed while being gritty and accountable. The group is excited to train through the next two weeks with eyes on fast racing at the Knecht Cup!"
Â
It was a mostly sunny day in Sarasota with warm conditions, with a high of 79F and low of 62F. Winds were blowing NW 10-15 mph. The 2V4 crew delivered the Eagles strongest performance of the regatta with a first place finish in the third level final. The crew posted a time of 7:56.70, more than 17 seconds ahead of High Point University and a minute ahead of Old Dominion.
Â
The 2V8 also delivered a strong performance with a second place finish in the petite final, just over one second after the first place Louisville and ahead of UMass, Tulsa, Kansas and Michigan State. The crew finished the course in a time of 7:25.11.
Â
In the Varsity 4 petite final Boston College secured a third place finish. The crew completed the course just seven seconds behind Kansas, finishing before Jacksonville, Tulsa and Kansas.
Â
Closing out the weekends racing, the Varsity 8 posted a fourth place finish in the petite final. The crew recorded a time of 7:06.08, finishing less than five seconds behind first place Louisville and ahead of MSU and Kansas.
Â
Back in Boston, it was chilly and mostly cloudy with temperatures up to 40F and winds blowing NW up to 10 mph. The Eagles 3V8 claimed a first place win with a time of 7:40, three seconds ahead of Holy Cross.
