Fiske joined the BC Eagles in 1999, helping convert the women’s team from a club to a nationally recognized Division I program. Within the first five years, Fiske's teams won the prestigious Dad Vail Championship, earned second place in the Big East Conference Championship, and he collected multiple Coach of the Year awards within both New England and the Big East.
A bellwether of the rowing team under Fiske's leadership has been the remarkable academic success of the team. BC rowing has produced 56 National Scholar-Athletes and 56 members of the All-ACC academic team, and two student-athletes have been awarded Fulbright Scholarships. Most recently during Fiske's tenure, five BC rowers earned All-ACC Academic honors, while six were recognized as National Scholar-Athletes in 2018.
In recent years, participating in the competitive ACC, the team has received multiple first and second place finishes at the annual Knecht Cup regatta, has won the Irving-Christianson Cup, the MIT Cup, has won in the Foot of the Charles Regatta, and medaled at Head of the Charles. Fiske has organized and led the Eagles on three European tours including to Henley, and to train and compete across Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, making BC one of few US Collegiate teams to compete in multiple countries internationally.
Fiske competed at Fordham University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in art history and pre-architecture. His rowing career at Fordham included team records on the ergometer (6K/2K), and medals at Dad Vails, the IRA Regatta, and racing in the Henley Royal Regatta. Fiske continued to train and race competitively for the New York Athletic Club for the better part of a decade, winning five national titles in both sweep and sculling events. He also raced internationally, representing the Commercial Rowing Club of Ireland. Steve remains active, sculling and running road races, including a number of marathons and half marathons.
Fiske, who completed his master's in administrative studies at BC in 2006, and his wife, Christine (BC rowing ’97), reside in Milton with their three children.
