Rowing Posts Five First-Place Finishes on Opening Day of Knecht Cup

CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The Boston College rowing team recorded five first-place finishes on the opening day at the Knecht Cup.

The frosh/novice four, varsity four, third varsity eight, second varsity eight, and varsity eight all recorded first-place finishes during the first day of the Knecht Cup. Two boats posted a second place finish, including BC's Varsity 4+ in the semi-finals.

"Good to see a big field and have some strong showings! The goal in a big regatta like this is always to progress to the next round and to take positive steps throughout each race," said Head Coach Grace Hollowell. "We are looking forward to semifinals and finals tomorrow, I'm confident we will see some quick and competitive racing across all crews!"

It was a mostly sunny and breezy day with gusty winds NNW up to 14 mph. Temperatures were at a high of 67F and a low of 43F.

The frosh/novice four placed first, finishing nearly 15 seconds ahead of second place Delaware, Lafayette, Monmouth University and Pittsburgh. The varsity four also recorded a first-place finish, ahead of UMass, Mercyhurst, MIT and Fairfield.

All varsity eight boats recorded first-place finishes. The third varsity eight posted a strong performance, placing 13 seconds ahead of Wisconsin, 15 seconds before MIT and Delaware, 35 seconds ahead of Bucknell and more than a minute before George Mason. The Eagles second varsity eight earned a first-place finish ahead of MIT, Bucknell, Wisconsin and Mercyhust, nearly a minute ahead of Mercyhurst. The varsity eight also finished first, placing ahead of Jacksonville, Connecticut, St. Josephs and Lehigh.

Boston College's second varsity four fell behind Temple but ahead of Colgate and West Virginia. The varsity four were narrowly defeated by Jacksonville. The Eagles finished ahead of Mercyhurst, Delaware, Temple and MIT.
