Eagles Drop Senior Day Contest to No. 40 Georgia Tech, Shut Out Bentley 7-0

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – No. 40 Georgia Tech pulled out the final three singles matches on Boston College's Senior Day to defeat the Eagles 5-2 in ACC play at the Flynn Recreation Complex on Sunday afternoon.Â
The Eagles rebounded to beat Bentley 7-0 in the second match of a doubleheader, the final match ever at the Plex.
BC (7-16) will face Clemson on Wednesday (April 17) at 9 a.m. in the 12-13 matchup at the 2019 ACC Tournament in Cary, North Carolina. The winner will play No. 5 seed Miami on Thursday (April 18).
The Yellow Jackets won the doubles point to open the match and took a 2-0 lead following Andrew Li's 6-4, 6-4 victory over Markus Nordby at No. 2 singles. The Eagles roared back to tie the match as graduate student Conor Mullins and sophomore Max Mendelsohn earned wins in the No. 3 and 4 slots.
The next two matches to finish went three sets, but Derek Austin couldn't edge Carlos Divar in No. 1 singles as GT went back ahead. The Yellow Jackets clinched the win in the No. 5 slot when Cole Gromley came back and held off Alexander Chieffalo 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
BC won five of the six singles matches against Bentley in straight sets, including a 6-0, 6-0 victory from Chieffalo. Senior Will Conigliaro contributed a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles.Â
