CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 1 Boston College lacrosse team is set to take on their highest-ranked opponent so far this season as they head to Annapolis to visit No. 12 Navy on Wednesday evening. First draw is set for 7:00 p.m.
The Eagles remain unbeaten in 2019, most recently coming off of a 12-9 win over No. 24 Southern California. In a seven-day, three-game home stretch, BC held off each of its opponents as they added to the win column with victories over USC, Dartmouth and Harvard.Â
Senior Sam Apuzzo broke the 300-point mark in her career, becoming just the second Eagle in program history to do so. She continued on to become the program's all-time point scorer as she currently totals 316 over her four years. Sophomore goalkeeper Abbey Ngai kept the Eagles hot in her first two career starts, grabbing back-to-back 12-save games.
Eagles currently sit atop three different ranks in the NCAA – Apuzzo's 5.17 goals and 7.17 points per game along with Kenzie Kent's 4.50 assists per game mark the best in the nation so far this season.
The Midshipmen have won each of their last four contests, coming in with a 4-1 record on the season. Most recently, Navy completed a comeback win over No. 11 Florida, finishing with a 14-13 score in their favor. 2018 leader Kelly Larkin holds the same position this season, coming in with 26 points through 15 goals and 11 assists – both most on the team.
The last time the teams met, their rankings were closer as the Eagles held the No. 2 spot and the Mids were placed at No. 8. Apuzzo had a game-shattering nine goals, breaking the single game goal record for BC. The then-junior ended the game with 10 points, adding an assist in the 20-14 win for the Eagles.
During her time as a player at Maryland, head coach Acacia Walker-Weinstein was coached by current Navy head coach Cindy Timchal, who led the Terrapins to seven consecutive national titles between 1995 and 2001.
The Eagles continue their road tilt on Saturday, as they take on No. 5 Northwestern on Saturday. First draw is set for 7:00 p.m.
