Eagles Come Up Short against NC State, 6-3

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Boston College softball team (11-18, 3-5 ACC) lost to NC State, 6-3, in an ACC matchup at the Harrington Athletics Village on Saturday.
NC State (18-15, 1-7 ACC) got on the board in the first inning when Sam Russ scored off a throwing error by Boston College. Russ reached on base with a walk to open the game.
The Wolfpack scored four runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead. NC State loaded the bases with two walks and a hit-by-pitch. Three runs crossed the plate behind a fielder's choice to third with an error on the throw to home. Another BC error allowed the fifth run of the game.
BC's Jenna Ergle hit a lead-off double in the fourth and scored on an infield grounder to short to get the Eagles on the board, 5-1. Allyson Moore's RBI double in the sixth cut into the Wolfpack lead, 5-2.
NC State tacked on the final run in the seventh when Russ hit a double to left center. She advanced to third on a ground ball and scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Logan Morris.
Down 6-2, Boston College's freshman Kennedy Labshere singled to left to start the seventh inning. Britney Richardson pinch ran for Labshere and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Richardson moved to third on a ground out to short and scored on a single from Ellie Mataya for the Eagles final run.Â
GAME NOTES
- Freshman Susannah Anderson entered the game in the third to relieve starter Camryn Dolby (7-6). Anderson went 4.2 innings, struck out two and scattered seven hits. Dolby went 2.1 innings, struck out four and gave up four runs.
- Ellie Mataya had two hits and one RBI. It was her sixth multi-hit game this season.
- Freshman Maddison Hamilton has reached base in five consecutive game.
- Senior Allyson Moore hit a double in the sixth inning. She has had a hit in the last three games. On Friday, Moore hit a two-run double in the seventh to tie the game. She also scored the game-winning run in the 4-3 win.
- BC left eight runners on base, while NC State stranded 15 on base.
