The lacrosse team is set for another top-10 tilt on the Heights
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 1 Boston College women's lacrosse team is set for another top-10 matchup this weekend, welcoming conference foe No. 7 Virginia to Newton on Saturday for Youth Day. The event will feature pregame inflatables, a gear sale and postgame autographs with the Eagles. First draw is set for noon and will be featured on the ACC Network Extra.
The Eagles are coming off of arguably their biggest win of the season, taking down No. 3 North Carolina in a 14-8 decision in Chapel Hill. BC was led by five goals from Sam Apuzzo while Dempsey Arsenault, Sheila Rietano and Jordan Lappin each added two goals of their own. Graduate student Kenzie Kent added one goal and helpers on three others.
The win allowed the Eagles to maintain their perfect record, hitting the 11-0 mark on the season. Apuzzo and Kent currently rank second and third, respectively, in points throughout the NCAA. Kent's 41 assists so far this season ranks first in Division I while Apuzzo's 53 goals and 4.82 goals per game marks second-best. 41 assists from Kent this season ties the previous individual single-season program record at BC.
Virginia holds a 9-3 record so far this season, most recently coming off of a 17-12 win over Duke last weekend. The Cavaliers are 5-3 over ranked opponents this season, led by senior Avery Shoemaker who notched seven goals and three assists in wins over James Madison and Duke last week.
The top-10 opponents have met 18 times since 1989, as Virginia holds a 14-4 lead in the series. The Eagles have taken the last two meetings: a 17-10 win in Newton in 2017 and a 15-12 decision in 2018 in Charlottesville.
Following this weekends' matchup, the Eagles play host to No. 9 Notre Dame for Student Day. The event will feature free pizza and t-shirts for the first 100 students in attendance. First draw is set for 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3 at the Newton Campus Fields.
