Eagles Face Wake Forest and Clemson on the Road

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College will try to rebound from losses to three straight ranked conference opponents when it travels to face No. 33 Wake Forest and Clemson this weekend in ACC play. The Eagles take on the Demon Deacons in North Carolina on Friday (March 1) at 4 p.m. before heading to South Carolina to meet the Tigers on Sunday (March 3) at 11 a.m. Live results and video of the Clemson match are available at the links above.
WEEKEND RECAP
The Eagles fell 5-2 to a pair of ranked Carolina schools last weekend at the Flynn Recreation Complex. Kylie Wilcox and No. 101 Yufei Long each upset top-10 nationally ranked opponents in singles to break the school record twice, but second-ranked North Carolina outlasted Boston College last Friday afternoon.

In singles play, Wilcox and Long were each dominant in their opening sets before losing the second set. Wilcox beat No. 6 Sara Daavettila 6-2 in the third set to clinch her No. 2 singles match, defeating the highest ranked opponent in school history. Just minutes later in first singles, Long shut down No. 2 Makenna Jones 6-0 in the decisive set to break Wilcox's record.

Long's victory cut the Tar Heels' overall lead to 3-2, but UNC won the remaining singles matchups in straight sets as Alle Sanford clinched the match by beating rookie Laura Lopez 6-3, 6-2.
On Sunday, the Eagles dropped another 5-2 final to 23rd-ranked North Carolina State as the Wolfpack won the doubles point and clinched the match with four singles victories.
After knocking off the sixth-ranked player in the nation against UNC on Friday, Wilcox closed an impressive weekend by beating Alana Smith in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in No. 2 singles. Natasha Irani also earned a victory from the No. 4 slot as she outlasted Liz Norman in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
SCOUTING WAKE FOREST
The Demon Deacons are ranked 33rd in the ITA national rankings and enter the weekend at 9-2 overall. Wake's lone conference match thus far was a 7-0 shutout of Clemson on Feb. 17. Last weekend, the Deacons beat Yale and No. 22 Illinois in the Blue Gray Classic in Alabama before falling to the top seed No. 13 Oklahoma State in the championship match.Â
Emma Davis is the 40th-ranked player in the nation, while Anna Ulyashchenko is positioned 96th in singles. Doubles tandems Davis / Chandler Carter and Ulyashchenko / Anna Brylin sit 45th and 47th nationally.Â
SCOUTING CLEMSON
The Tigers enter the weekend at 5-7 (1-3 ACC) and are set host No. 20 Virginia on Friday before welcoming BC on Sunday. Last weekend, Clemson dropped a pair of tight road matches in conference play to Notre Dame and Louisville.
Fernanda Navarro and Marie Leduc are the No. 1 doubles team in the nation, while Navarro is the only Clemson singles player ranked among the top-100 by the ITA at No. 82, down from 64th in the previous rankings. Last year, BC beat both Wake and Clemson by 4-3 final scores in Chestnut Hill.
UP NEXT
The Eagles are idle next weekend before hosting Binghamton and Virginia Tech on the weekend of March 16-17.
