BC Softball Heads to East Carolina Unviersity for Weekend Series With JMU and ECU
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College softball team will travel to Greenville, N.C. this weekend for the Pirate Invitational. The Eagles will be playing one game against No. 18 James Madison and two games against host East Carolina.  First pitch of game one against East Carolina is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. The games can be followed via live stats.
Â
The Eagles will face East Carolina on Saturday afternoon, and Sunday morning at 11:30 AM. BC has faced the Pirates three times in program history, dropping all three contests. The last meeting between the two teams came on Feb. 17, 2008.
Â
The Eagles will face No. 18 James Madison on Sunday morning at 9:00 AM. In the only contest between the two programs on March 4, 2017, the Dukes beat the Eagles by a score of 1-0.
Â
Last weekend at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in Atlanta, the Eagles came away with their first two wins of the season, sweeping both meetings with Michigan State. The lineup saw a different combination that led to offensive outbursts of nine and seven runs in the 9-7 and 7-6 wins over the Spartans.
Â
"We are definitely trying to find the right combination and after this weekend, we have a good idea of how to combine the best nine bats with the best nine defensive players," said head coach Ashley Obrest. "We just need the best nine bats to also be the best nine defensive players and for those players to stay consistent in their role. If we can stay consistent, things will start to click."
Â
Coach Obrest went on to say that although only nine players step on the field for each game, it takes an entire team to win games. "Our non-starters are extremely important as well," said Obrest. "Each player on this team has a role and yes, some roles are bigger than others, but if everyone accepts their role for that particular day and game, we will continue to improve each day."
Â
Lexi DiEmmanuele and Ellie Mataya were catalysts to the offensive explosion, going a combined 15-for-31 at the plate and driving in three runs. The key was putting both slap hitters at the top of the lineup, with the hopes of putting immediate pressure on opposing defenses.
Â
"Ellie and Lexi had one of the best weekends I have ever seen," said Obrest. "When we stacked them one and two, we knew the potential we had if they both did their jobs and that they did. They fed off of each other and complimented each other so well. I'm excited to see them continue their tear at East Carolina."Â
