Eagles fall to Duke despite 22 points from Taylor Soule
DURHAM, N.C. – The Boston College women's basketball team lost to Duke, 85-73, on Sunday at Cameron Indoor Stadium in the first ACC game of the season. Boston College is now 5-5 (0-1 ACC) while Duke improved to 7-3 (1-0).

The Eagles were led by sophomore Taylor Soule with a team-high 22 points. She shot 5-for-10 from the floor and 12-for-14 from the foul line. Soule also grabbed a team-high nine boards. Sophomore Makayla Dickens was 6-for-11 from the floor and finished with 16 points, while sophomore Marnelle Garraud added 11 points.

Duke was led by Haley Gorecki with 27 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Leaonna Odom pitched in with 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Miela Goodchild made four three-pointers and finished with 14 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles were down 23-14 after the first quarter, shooting just 30 percent from the floor. The Eagles went 0-for-5 from the three-point line in the quarter while Duke shot 56% from the floor.
-BC fell behind 10 points with 6:55 to play in the half after Goodchild hit her second three-pointer of the game. A Garraud three-pointer opened up a 10-0 run by the Eagles. Dickens had six points in the run including a three-pointer and coast-to-coast layup to cut the Blue Devils' lead to just two points at 28-26. Jade Williams halted the Eagles run with a bucket under the hoop and Duke pulled away to take a 40-34 lead at the half.
- The Blue Devils' lead grew to 11 points with 5:08 to play on another Williams bucket. A 7-2 run sparked by a layup from Taylor Soule and a three from Dickens cut the lead to 53-47 in Duke's favor with 2:57 to play in the frame. Odom and Goodchild responded with back-to-back three-pointers and Duke held a 59-47 lead with 2:28 left in the quarter. Goodchild's fourth three of the game pushed the lead to 62-49 after three quarters.
- Junior Sydney Lowery scored seven of the Eagles first nine points and had three steals to start the fourth but BC was down, 69-58. A Dickens three cut the lead to eight points with 5:12 to play but a 7-0 run by Duke put the game away with 2:21 to play.

- At the half, Soule led BC with 12 points and five rebounds. Going into the final quarter, Soule was 10-for-10 from the foul line. She finished with 22 points and nine boards. It is the third time this season Soule has led BC offensively.
- Lowery played 15 minutes and finished with seven points and four steals. All of her points and steals occurred in the final quarter.
- The BC bench outscored Duke, 31-23, thanks to 16 points from Dickens and seven from Lowery. Senior Georgia Pineau finished with eight points and six boards.
