Eagles' Defensive Effort Helps Power Past UAlbany, 72-51

Four Eagles score in double figures, led by Jairus Hamilton's 16 points
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Boston College broke the game open with a 23-9 run to start the second half, cruising to a 72-51 win over UAlbany on Tuesday night.
The Eagles scored a season-high 30 points off 20 UAlbany turnovers, including 20 in the second half.  Â
Jairus Hamilton led all scorers with 16 point to go along with five rebounds and two assists. Steffon Mitchell logged his eighth career double-double with a complete stat line: 15 points, 13 boards, five steals, and two assists. Freshmen Jay Heath and Julian Rishwain each tallied 11 points.
There were five lead changes in six ties in the first half. BC scored the first six points of the game and led 12-9 after a Julian Rishwain 3-pointer with 14:04 left. The Great Danes responded with a 13-4 run, taking a 22-16 ;lead with 10:09 to go in the period. BC chipped away at the lead, tying it at 29-29 after a Jay Heath layup with 3:03 to go. UAlbany led 31-30 at the break.
BC scored the first five points of the second half before a Great Danes 3-pointer cut the Eagles' lead to 35-34 with 18:54 left in regulation. It was all Boston College from there, as the home squad scored 11 unanswered over the next 3:19. Another Rishwain 3-pointer made it 46-34 with just under 15 minutes to go.
The Eagles would build as much as a 23 point lead, after a Derryck Thornton layup made it 69-46 with 3:05 remaining.
