Stefan Sigurdarson scores lone goal in overtime loss.
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The No. 8 Boston College men's soccer team fell to No. 9 Notre Dame, 2-1, in double-overtime in the first round of the ACC Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Stadium on the campus of Notre Dame.
Notre Dame won the game on an own goal in the second overtime.
Boston College dropped to 8-5-3. Notre Dame improved to 10-6-1 and will play at No. 1 Clemson on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament.
The Eagles scored first as freshman Stefan Sigurdarson tallied his seventh goal of the season. The forward received a pass from senior Lasse Lehmann, who won a 50-50 ball in the middle of the field. Sigurdarson weaved through a player and ripped a shot from 25-yards out for the 1-0 BC lead in the 24th minute.
The Irish tied the game in the 62nd minute on a shot off the head of Ian Aschieri from Jack Casey.
Sigurdarson had a great chance from six yards out in the 85th minute off a feed from Michael Suski. Sigurdarson was challenged on the shot and it sailed high over the crossbar.
In overtime the two teams traded blows. In the 97th minute, Suski had a shot to the left of the Irish keeper Duncan Turnball in the 97th minute. Turnbull (2 saves) handled it easily. Notre Dame's best chance came in the 98th minute on a cross into the box. BC goalkeeper Christian Garner (3 saves) made the save coming across his goal but it was called offside.
Just one minute into the second overtime, Notre Dame advanced on the own goal.

- Freshman Stefan Sigurdarson now has seven goals with four assists on the season for 18 points. He is the first freshman since Simon Enstrom '19 led BC with 22 points (9 goals, 4 assists) in 2015. Sigurdarson led the Eagles attack with three shots.
- Freshman Michael Suski was active all game. He forced two corner kicks in the first half and finished with two shot in the game.
- Senior Lasse Lehmann was not credited with an assist on the goal by Stefan Sigurdarson but it was his play at midfield that created the chance. He stole the ball at midfield to set up the goal. Lehmann played 92 minutes and had one shot.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Christian Garner made three saves. He is now 4-2-3 on the season.
- Senior Joe Kellett had to sit out of today's game because he was served a red card in the final game of the season vs. Syracuse. Prior to today, the Eagles defender had not missed a game in his four year career.
- Boston College finished with three shots on goal, while Notre Dame had five. The Irish had a 12-5 advantage on corner kicks.
