Eagles Play at Notre Dame In ACC Tournament

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College men's soccer team opens postseason play on Tuesday in the first round of the ACC Tournament. The ninth-seeded Eagles will travel to face eighth-seeded Notre Dame at Alumni Stadium. The teams will kick off at 2 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
The Eagles moved into ninth place with a 2-1 win over Syracuse on Friday night. Freshman Michael Suski scored the game-winner in the 78th minute. Freshman Stefan Sigurdarson had two assists in the match, while sophomore goalkeeper Christian Garner had four saves (4-1-3).

The winner of Tuesday's contest will advance to meet the top seed Clemson on Sunday, Nov. 10 in South Carolina.

BC vs. NOTRE DAME
- This will be the 15th meeting between Boston College and Notre Dame.
- BC is 4-9-1 vs. the Irish in the overall series. The Eagles are 2-4-0 on the road and 1-3-1 in the last five meetings against Notre Dame.
- The two teams last played in 2018 with the Irish earning a 1-0 victory on Sept. 28.
- BC last defeated Notre Dame on October 3, 2014 on the road. Then sophomore Isaac Normesinu scored the lone goal in the 15th minute of the game. It was an upset as the Irish were ranked No. 1 at the time.

LAST TIME OUT
- Boston College freshman Michael Suski scored in the game-winner in the 78th minute to lead the Eagles past Syracuse, 2-1, at home. It was Suski's third goal and first game-winning goal.
- The Eagles were down 1-0 after Syracuse scored in the 33rd minute on a free kick from Ryan Raposo from 22 yards out. BC was handed a second blow when senior Joe Kellett was served a red card in the 41st minute.
- Down a man, Boston College responded as freshman Amos Shapiro-Thompson scored off a beautiful set up from Stefan Sigurdarson in the 42nd minute and the game was tied at 1-1.
- Despite being down a man, Boston College continued to press forward. The game evened out when Syracuse was served a red card as Nyal Higgins left the game in the 72nd minute.
- Sophomore Christian Garner improved to 4-1-3 in goal as he made four saves in the win.

- Stefan Sigurdarson, a native of Iceland, leads the BC with 6 goals and 4 assists for 16 points.
- He has scored two goals twice this season - vs. #3 Wake Forest and RV Louisville.
- On Friday, Siguardarson set up both goals in the win over Syracuse.
- Sigurdarson is the first freshman to lead the team in scoring since Simon Enstrom '19. Enstrom finished the 2015 season with nine goals and three assists. Â In 2014, then-rookie Zeiko Lewis led BC with three goals and 11 assists for 17 points.

-The Eagles finished the season with a 2-4-2 record in fifth place in the Atlantic Division. No. 9 BC will play at No. 8 Notre Dame (3-5-0 ACC) on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The winner will travel to Clemson to play on Nov. 10.
- Last season BC finished with a 2-5-1 record and lost to NC State in the first round of the ACC Tournament.
- BC won the regular season ACC Championship in 2007 and captured the tournament tile as well that season. BC went 7-1-0 in the regular season of the conference in 2007.
- The most recent success in the ACC, the Eagles advanced to the semifinal round in 2016. BC defeated Virginia Tech on penalty kicks (4-3), followed by a 1-0 win over UNC on the road. The Eagles eventually fell to Clemson in South Carolina.
