SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Boston College sophomore Cameron Swartz scored a career-high 27 points, while sophomore Marnelle Garraud added 15 points, five assists and six steals to lead the Eagles past Tulane, 89-76, in the second game of the Puerto Rico Clasico at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriquez on Thursday afternoon.
The Eagles improved to 5-3 and will next travel to Illinois to play in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at Northwestern.
BC jumped out to a 12-2 lead and never looked back. In the first quarter the backcourt tandem of Swartz and Garraud combined for 17 points and five steals as BC held a 32-14 lead after one quarter. The Eagles held a 53-28 lead at the half as the team shot 57.1 percent from the floor.
Boston College shot a season-high 58.6 percent for the game and won the battle of the boards, 30-24. It was also the second straight game BC had 12 steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BC jumped out to a 12-2 lead behind four points from Marnelle Garraud and six from Cameron Swartz. The Eagles shot 60 percent from the floor and held a 32-14 lead after the first quarter. Garraud had six points with three steals, while Swartz had 11 points and two steals.
- The second quarter the backcourt tandem of Swartz and Garraud continued to hound Tulane. Garraud finished the half with 11 points and five steals, while Swartz had three steals and 15 points. The Eagles shot 53.3 percent from the floor, while holding Tulane to just 31.3 percent in the second quarter and 32 percent for the half. BC went into the locker room with a 53-28 lead.
- Tulane opened the third quarter with a 6-0 run as BC turned the ball over three consecutive times. Sophomore Taylor Soule got the Eagles back on track with a steal and layup to push the lead to 19 points. Swartz went on her own six point run as she hit three straight buckets and BC held a 60-38 lead with 5:13 to play in the quarter. BC shot 60 percent in the third quarter and took 69-48 lead going into the final quarter.
- Senior Emma Guy took over the start of the fourth quarter. She had two consecutive traditional three-pointer plays and BC was up, 77-51, with just over seven minutes left in the game. Tulane started to pressure the ball full court and chipped away at the lead. Swartz nailed two freebies followed by two foul shots from Soule as BC's lead was 20 points. Guy finished with eight points in the quarter and BC shot 60 percent from the floor in the quarter.
GAME NOTES
- Senior Emma Guy finished with 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor. She also had five rebounds. In the two games at the Puerto Rico Clasico, Guy shot 15-for-21 (71%) from the floor, scored 36 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
- Redshirt sophomore Cameron Swartz finished with a career-high 27 points with two rebounds and a career-high four steals. In the two games in Puerto Rico, Swartz had 45 points, four rebounds, four assists and five steals.
- Sophomore Marnelle Garraud matched her career-high with six steals. The guard last reached six steals in the win over UMass Lowell on Nov. 5. In two games, Garraud had 26 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and nine steals.
- Sophomore Taylor Soule pitched in with 11 points and a team-high six rebounds. She was 5-for-5 from the foul line in the game.
- BC now leads the overall series against Tulane, 2-0.
