
Eagles Complete Season Sweep of Wake Forest

The volleyball team came from behind twice in a five-set victory in Winston-Salem.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –The Boston College volleyball team (19-9, 10-5 ACC) came from behind twice to take the season sweep over conference foe Wake Forest (12-15, 2-14 ACC) with a 3-2 final score in Reynolds Gym Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Jewel Strawberry led the Eagles' offensive effort with 12 kills, as the Eagles came out on top despite being out-hit by the Demon Deacons, .212-.165.

Clare Naughton and Cat Balido each contributed 10 kills behind Strawberry's 12, while Strawberry ended the day with a match-best .370 attack percentage. Jane DeJarld served up three aces and added a team-best 25 assists, while Madison McKnight came behind with two aces and 17 helpers.

On the defensive side, Strawberry and Gabby McCaa contributed the only block solos for the Eagles, while McCaa added three block assists to match Amaka Chukwujekwu's four total to lead the team. Torey Baum put up 20 digs with DeJarld adding 13 and McKnight contributing 11.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 –The Eagles earned the opening points off of a Wake Forest error and an ace from DeJarld, but a five-point run for the home team quickly put the Demon Deacons ahead, 8-5. After trading points, Wake Forest went on another run, this time adding four straight to go up 15-9. The Eagles answered with three of their own but it wouldn't be enough as Wake Forest closed the set with five of the final six points, 25-18.
Set 2 –BC grabbed the first lead this time, earning a 5-2 advantage before pushing to 7-4. Wake Forest tied it at 10-all with back-to-back blocks from Caitlyn Della, but a 5-1 BC run would put the Eagles back on top, 17-12. Wake Forest had one final push to get within three points but BC closed it out on two straight kills from Jill Strockis, 25-20.
Set 3 –An early run had Wake Forest up 6-3, but BC answered right back to put the score at 6-6. Wake tallied five of the next six to take an 11-7 lead. BC added three points before Wake regained their footing to extend their lead to 17-11. Another 5-1 run put the Demon Deacons up to 22-12 before the teams traded points to find a 24-16 score. Wake Forest earned the win and regained the match lead with a kill from Peyton Suess, 25-16.
Set 4 –BC earned the first lead at 4-1, before Wake Forest pushed within one at 5-4. The Eagles added four straight points to go up 11-6 before allowing only one Wake Forest point then adding three more. With a seven-point advantage at 14-7, Wake Forest added a seven-point run to force a BC timeout at 14-13. Out of the break, BC added two points for some breathing room, then put up six straight points that Wake Forest couldn't erase. The Demon Deacons held off BC's set point twice, but a kill from Balido forced a fifth deciding set, 25-18.
Set 5 –The final set opened evenly-matched, as the teams found three different ties to a 3-3 score before BC added three points for a 6-3 lead. Wake Forest added two points before the Eagles went on a 5-0 run which proved to be the decision-maker in the final set. A kill from Strawberry and a Wake Forest attack error gave BC the win, 15-8.
