Eagles Return Home for Louisville, Notre Dame
October 31, 2019 | Volleyball
The volleyball team hosts two of the top teams in the ACC this weekend
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team (16-7, 7-3 ACC) returns home to Power Gym following a two-week road stretch as it plays host to Louisville (Friday, Nov. 1 at 7:30 PM) and Notre Dame (Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1:00 PM) this weekend.
The Eagles capped off October on the road for the second consecutive week, taking a weekend split in North Carolina. BC topped NC State in five sets before dropping the match in straight sets against North Carolina. The Eagles started off hot against the Wolfpack, earning the first two sets with seeming ease, 25-15 and 25-19. NC State fought back, forcing extra points in the third set and preventing the Eagle sweep, 26-24, before dominating the fourth set with a 25-14 win to tie the match. The Eagles were the eventual victors, securing the win with a 15-11 deciding set score. Jewel Strawberry led the Eagles in kills for the fourth straight game, tallying 18 as Amaka Chukwujekwu and Clare Naughton added 12 and 10, respectively. Three Eagles added four blocks, as Cat Balido and Amaka Chukwujekwu each had four assists and Carly Kutschke tallied two solos and two assists.
The Cardinals suffered just their second conference loss of the season at the hands of Pitt, placing the team alongside Notre Dame for second place in the conference standings. The loss came at a less-than-ideal time, as Louisville's lone senior and leading scorer Melanie McHenry suffered a season-ending injury two matches prior. BC has only topped Louisville once in their short history: a five-set battle in their first-ever meeting on Sept. 26, 2014. The Cardinals have won seven straight matches since.
The Irish are locked in second place in the conference with Louisville, sporting identical records at 15-5 overall with an 8-2 in ACC play. Notre Dame's only conference losses this season have come at the hands of Louisville and Pitt, as they started the season 6-0 in ACC before suffering a 3-2 loss to the Cardinals. BC last defeated the Fighting Irish in 2015: a 3-0 sweep in South Bend.
Both of this weekends' matches will be available for stream on the ACC Network Extra. High school teams are welcomed to Sunday's match with the Irish for High School Day as the Eagles will be hosting a postgame autograph session.
