The volleyball team moved to a third-place tie in the conference standings after defeating Louisville
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team (17-7, 8-3 ACC) completed a come-from-behind win to top Louisville (15-6, 8-3 ACC) in a five set thriller on Friday night in Power Gym. The win marks the first time under head coach Jason Kennedy that the Eagles have defeated a team receiving votes in the national ranking polls.
Junior Amaka Chukwujekwu tallied 14 kills to lead the team for the third time this season, as Cat Balido and Jewel Strawberry came up closely behind with 12 each. Senior Sophie West led the consistency for the Eagles, tallying a .400 hitting percentage with five kills and only one error. Jane DeJarld and Madison McKnight combined for 52 assists, with DeJarld tallying a team-best 27. Strawberry had a match-best three service aces, including one which sealed the third set win for BC.
On the defensive front, Jill Strockis earned personal record marks, tallying a season-best 17 digs along with a career-best five blocks. Chukwujekwu had the team-best in blocks with six as West came up with four.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – The teams bounced to an 8-8 tie before Louisville grabbed the first substantial lead, taking it away with an 18-11 score. The Eagles tallied a short run in a comeback attempt, but the Cardinals sealed the win taking five of the final seven points capped with an ace from Mia Stander, 25-18.
Set 2 – BC opened with three straight points before allowing one from the visitors, previewing a trio of back-and-forth points from both teams to find a 6-4 score with the Eagles on top. BC earned four of the next five points to double up on the Cardinals with a 10-5 tally, forcing a Louisville timeout. Louisville continued to push, keeping the differential no larger than two points, as the teams found themselves tied at 22-22. Out of a BC timeout, the Eagles earned one point off of an error by Shannon Shields, but Louisville added two with back-to-back kills from Amber Stivrins to take the lead, 24-23. A Clare Naughton kill tied it back, as the Eagles tied the match with three straight Cardinal errors, 28-26.
Set 3 – The Eagles started off dominant, taking a 6-2 opening lead into a Louisville timeout. The Cardinals answered back to tie it, 8-8, but the Eagles would tally five of the next seven points to hold onto a three-point advantage at 13-10. Familiarly, Louisville pushed back, finding another tie at 16-16. The set proved to be tight as BC called timeout with a 23-23 knot, coming out to tally back-to-back points off of a Naughton kill and an ace from Strawberry.
Set 4 – Louisville jumped to an initial 6-3 lead which they would hold onto for the remainder of the set. The Cardinals kept up their pace in the comeback effort, adding a five-point run to take a 22-11 lead, only allowing two more points from BC to tie the match, 25-13.
Set 5 – The Eagles grabbed a quick 6-3 lead, never allowing the Cardinals to tally consecutive points throughout the deciding set. BC had two to each of Louisville's single points en route to a 15-8 win off of back-to-back kills from Balido.
