Senior duo lead Boston College baseball into 2020 season.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Seniors Brian Dempsey (Potomac, Md.) and Joe Suozzi (Glen Cove, N.Y.) were named captains of the Boston College baseball team for the 2020 season. The two were elected by their teammates at the conclusion of the Eagles' fall ball season.
Â
"I'm exciting to see these two form our leadership core for this spring," said head coach Mike Gambino. "Dempsey is a three-year starter that has proven himself as a tireless worked with the respect of his teammates. Suozzi came here as a true walk-on and earned a spot on the team as a sophomore. His work ethic, integrity and character have all stood out to his teammates from day one."
Â
Dempsey played at third base primarily as a freshman in 2017 then second base in 2018 before anchoring the BC infield as a junior in 2019 from the shortstop position. He hit .295 last season with three home runs and 37 RBI from the three-hole.
Â
Suozzi, un-recruited out of high school, had a breakout season as a junior; hitting .282 and slugging .423, while playing right field, center field and designated hitter. Last season, he was chosen by the BC coaches and players to wear the No. 8, which honors Sonny Nictakis ('99).
