North Carolina defeated the volleyball team in straight sets in Chapel Hill
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –The Boston College volleyball team (16-7, 7-3 ACC) fell to North Carolina (10-10, 7-3 ACC) in straight sets on Sunday afternoon in Carmichael Arena. The Eagles return to Chestnut Hill with a split weekend result after topping NC State in five sets on Friday.

Sophomore Jewel Strawberry tallied a team-best 10 kills on the day, followed closely behind by Clare Naughton's eight and Amaka Chukwujekwu's six. Mackenzie Fuhrmann led with an error-free .714, notching five kills off of seven attempts for the best hitting percentage of the match. Strawberry and setter Madison McKnight each added one service ace in the effort as McKnight and Jane DeJarld combined for 32 assists.

Strawberry, Naughton and Jill Strockis each put up a team-best seven digs while Makenzie Morrison (six digs) and Torey Baum (five digs) followed. Carly Kutschke had two block solos to claim match-best.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 –BC got the upper hand to start, finding a slim 6-5 lead off of a three-point rally. UNC answered with four to take a 9-6 lead and force a timeout call from the Eagles. BC got two back but the Tar Heels added five of the next six to go up 14-9. The remainder of the set was evenly-matched, but a five-point run closed out the win for Carolina, 25-17.
Set 2 –The teams bounced to a 5-5 tie early on before trading points. A 7-1 rally for UNC brought the home team up 18-11, earning a lead which they would never give up. BC tallied five more points but UNC took the set on three straight points, 25-16.
Set 3 –Carolina had the clear advantage to begin, tallying eight of the opening 10 points. The Eagles bounced back, pushing within two points for a 9-7 score in favor of UNC. The Tar Heels added multiple three-point rallies and BC answered each time, but the initial lead was too much for the Eagles to diminish as UNC earned the sweep with a kill from Aristea Tontai, 25-20.
