Strawberry, Eagles Hold Off Wolfpack Comeback Attempt
October 25, 2019 | Volleyball
Sophomore Jewel Strawberry had 18 kills as the volleyball team topped NC State in five sets
RALEIGH, N.C. – The Boston College volleyball team (16-6, 7-2 ACC) held off a late rally from the NC State Wolfpack (8-13, 2-6 ACC), to earn a five-set win on Friday night in Raleigh. The win gives BC 16 on the year, marking the most in a season since the Eagles totaled 16 wins in 2003.
The Eagles were once again led by sophomore Jewel Strawberry who tallied a double-double with a team-best 18 kills and 16 digs, followed by Amaka Chukwujekwu (12 kills, four blocks), Clare Naughton (10 kills) and Cat Balido (nine kills). Gabby McCaa (five kills) and Mackenzie Fuhrmann (three kills) led with .500 hitting percentages, each only recording one error. Setters Madison McKnight and Jane DeJarld led on the assist effort, combining for 54 of BC's 60 assists.
Defensively, Chukwujekwu, Balido and Carly Kutschke paved the way with four blocks a piece, as Kutschke tallied the only two block solos for the Eagles. Strawberry and Sophie West both assisted on two blocks as BC tallied 16 total blocks to NC State's eight. Strawberry combined with senior Makenzie Morrison (12 digs) and freshman Torey Baum (11 digs) to keep the ball off of the ground.

Two straight points via kills from Jessica Kemp and Jade Parchment gave the Wolfpack its first set win of the day, 26-24.

Another six-point run brought the Wolfpack up 16-6 before BC earned another point. NC State pushed to go up 23-10 before the teams traded points, as two kills from Kemp earned the win, 25-12, for the Wolfpack and tied the match.
