The volleyball team wraps up a two-week road stretch in North Carolina
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team (15-6, 6-2 ACC) wraps up October on the road, heading to North Carolina to face both NC State (8-12, 3-5 ACC) on Friday at 7:00 PM and North Carolina (8-10, 5-3 ACC) on Sunday at 2:30 PM. Both matches will be available for stream on the ACC Network Extra, while Sunday's will be broadcast on regional sports network.
Last weekend, the Eagles jumped back onto the road and split the weekend in the Sunshine State, falling to Florida State before topping Miami. Sunday's win over the Hurricanes marked BC's first win in the series since 2007 - snapping an 18-game losing streak. The team combined for 17 aces in the effort, just one short of the all-time program record set in 2006. Sophomore Jewel Strawberry led with four of her own while Makenzie Morrison added three and four different Eagles had two. The performance pushed the Eagles into the top spot in the conference in service aces, averaging 1.65 per set and combining for 132 so far this season. Strawberry also led in kills, recording 18 on the day while Clare Naughton followed closely behind with 14. Defensively, Carly Kutschke marked a career-best for blocks, tallying four over the five-set comeback battle.
The Wolfpack is coming off of a loss to No. 3 Pitt, but hangs onto a 3-5 conference record heading into the fifth week of league play. NC State holds a 22-9 series record over the Eagles, including wins in their last three meetings. BC last defeated the Wolfpack in a four-set contest on Nov. 6, 2015 in Chestnut Hill. NC State is led by Pam Chukwujekwu with a .321 hitting percentage – sister of BC's Amaka Chukwujekwu, who also has the highest percentage on the team at .431.
The Tar Heels hold a 5-3 conference record, despite a sub-.500 overall record at 8-10. Their upset win over then-No. 23 Florida State was their first over a ranked opponent since 2016. BC earned their first-ever win over UNC just last year, earning the win in straight sets in Power Gym on Oct. 21, 2018. Strawberry paved the way, tallying a match-best 14 kills.
The Eagles return to Chestnut Hill after a two-week road stretch, hosting Louisville on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7:30 PM and Notre Dame on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1:00 PM.
