No. 9 Eagles Top Providence, 4-2, for Weekend Sweep

Lindsay Agnew scored the short-handed, game-winning goal two minutes into the third period.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 9/9 Boston College women's hockey team skated to a 4-2 win over Providence on Saturday afternoon at Schneider Arena. Lindsay Agnew scored two goals, including the game-winner, while Megan Keller, Daryl Watts and Makenna Newkirk each picked up two points.
Goals from Newkirk and Agnew had the Eagles up, 2-0, just 2:26 into middle frame but two Providence power-play goals, two minute apart later in the period made it a tie game at the second intermission.
Agnew's second score of the game grabbed the lead back for the Eagles two minutes into the final stanza and then Caitrin Lonergan sealed the win on the power-play three minutes after that.
Maddy McArthur finished with 22 saves for BC while Madison Myers had 27 for Providence. The Eagles held a 31-24 edge in shots on goal. The Friars went 2-for-4 on the power play and BC was 1-for-4.

- 1st, 0:45 | 1-0, BC GOAL: Watts wheeled around the right circle before slotting a pass to Newkirk that the senior was able to get in position in the low slot to finish into the top right corner.
- 2nd, 2:26 | 2-0, BC GOAL: Keller danced around a PC player at the blue line to get the puck into the zone and then slid a pass left to Watts in the slot. Watts in turn found Agnew at the bottom of the left circle for a finish inside the left post.
- 2nd, 14:17 | 2-1, PC GOAL: Cassidy MacPherson found Whitney Dove at the left dot and Dove one-timed it through two bodies to the far post for a deflection from Hayley Lunny.
- 2nd, 16:14 | 2-2, PC GOAL: McArthur made an initial save on a shot from the point but the rebound fell unattended to the slot and Sara Hjalmarsson was able to poke it home.
- 3rd, 2:20 | 3-2, BC GOAL: A Providence shot attempt wrapped around the boards and Newkirk forced the puck through two defenders into the neutral zone. Agnew picked up the puck up and raced down the left wing before rifling a wrist shot from the left dot over the right shoulder of Myers for her third short-handed goal of the season.
- 3rd, 5:08 | 4-2 BC GOAL: Kelly Browne hit Kali Flanagan at the right point to create some space on the half wall and received the puck back from the senior before walking in towards the dot and finding Lonergan across the slot for a redirection.
- BC is now 36-37-3 all-time against Providence since elevating to Division I status for the 1994-95 season and 29-6-3 under head coach Katie Crowley … the Eagles have a mark of 17-18-1 against the Friars at Schneider Arena.
- Caitrin Lonergan skated in her 100th career game.
- Megan Keller's point streak now stands at seven games … Lonergan has registered at least one point in five straight games … Makenna Newkirk now has a four-game point streak.
- The Eagles have out-shot the opponent in 15 consecutive contests.
- Newkirk's goal was BC's fastest to start a game this season, beating Delaney Belinskas' opening score 1:22 into yesterday's game.
- Lindsay Agnew how has three short-handed goals on the season, tied with eight other players for the eighth all-time in program history in a single season.
- Keller picked up her 10th multiple-point game of the season and has now registered points in 22 of her 26 games played this season … the senior has 10 points in the last five games.
- Newkirk's goal was the 70th of her career … only five other players in program history have scored at least 70 goals … she now was 175 career points.
- This was the second consecutive game in which Newkirk assisted on the game-winning goal.
- Agnew finished with a game-high eight shots on goal.
- Newkirk tied for a game-high in face-off wins with 17.
- Lonergan's power-play goal gives her 15 for her career, moving her into a tie for 10th all-time in program history.
