
Ortlepp, Dickens Lead Eagles Past Wake, 65-64

BC improves to 12-4 with its first ACC win of the season.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Junior guard Taylor Ortlepp scored a team-high 19 points and freshman Makayla Dickens posted her second consecutive double-double with 11 points and a career-high 16 rebounds to lead Boston College past Wake Forest, 65-64, on Thursday night at the LJVM Coliseum.

Boston College improved to 12-4 and 1-2 in the ACC, while Wake Forest is now 9-7 overall and 0-2 in the conference. BC will head to Pittsburgh to play the Panthers on Sunday at 1 p.m. (NESN). Wake Forest will travel to Indiana to play No. 1 Notre Dame on Sunday.

The Eagles held a 54-47 lead going into the final quarter. Â With 7:40 to play, Wake Forest cut the lead to one point off a layup by Lindsey Jarosinski. Ortlepp would hit one of her three three-pointers off a feed from Makayla Dickens to push the lead to four points.

Wake responded with a layup, but another three-pointer by Ortlepp pushed the Eagles lead to four points. The Eagles guard was not done as she hit her final long range shot of the game with 4:02 to play and BC held a five-point lead.

The Deacs chipped away at the lead off a 6-2 run capped off by two freebies from Elisa Penna (26 points) with 2:11 to play. BC held on behind three key rebounds down the stretch. Dickens rebounded a missed shot from Wake's Gina Conte with 56 seconds to play. Emma Guy pulled down an offensive rebound off a missed three-pointer with 37 seconds to play.

On the following BC play, Dickens appeared to have lost the ball at half court as she was setting up the final shot. After a review, the ball clearly went off Wake Forest and BC obtain possession. With three seconds to play, Ortlepp's shot bounced long but it was Dickens who grabbed the offensive rebound to seal the win.

- This was BC's first win over Wake Forest since Feb. 12, 2015. The Eagles won the game, 75-74, on the road.
