September 29, 2018 | Football
Dillon and Glines both go over 100 yards on the ground
AJ Dillon (161) and Ben Glines (120) combined for 281 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the win, while Anthony Brown was 15-for-33 for 139 yards and two touchdowns.
The Eagles struck first, as Tommy Sweeney hauled in a pass from Anthony Brown from seven yards out, capping a 12-play, 64-yard drive midway through the first quarter. The Owls would tie the score 18 seconds later, as Ryquell Armstead ripped off a 75-yard run to the end zone.
Temple took a 14-7 lead, recovering a Michael Walker fumble on the ensuing kickoff and returning it 25 yards for the score with 7:39 left in the quarter. But BC would strike again, this time as Brown found Jeff Smith on a 16-yard crossing pattern. The PAT kick was no good, making it 14-13, Temple with 3:31 left.
The Owls extended their lead - 21-13 - with 6:46 to play in the first half but the Eagles manufactured two turnovers and two touchdowns to take control. A Hamp Cheevers interception of Temple's Anthony Russo with 5:07 set up a three-play, 55-yard scoring drive. Dillon accounted for all the gains on the drive, including a 52-yard TD run. The Eagles tied the game at 21-21, as Sweeney hauled in the two-point conversion.
Taj-Amir Torres notched his first interception of the season with 3:31 left, picking off a Russo pass and returning it 29 yards to the Temple nine-yard line. Dillon's second TD rush of the game from two yards out gave the Eagles a 28-21 lead with just under three minutes left. A 26-yard field goal from Danny Longman closed out the first half, with BC leading 31-21.
Boston College's opening drive to start the second half saw Dillon and Kobay White leave the field due to injury and ended with a bad snap on a punt deep in Eagles' territory. But Zach Allen's strip sack of Temple QB Russo set up another scoring drive for BC. The Eagles took a 38-21 lead as Anthony Brown and Jeff Smith connected for a nine-yard TD strike. But it was Smith who found Brown after a double-reverse reversed the roles of the wideout and signal caller with 9:22 left. Temple responded with a nine-play, 72-yard scoring drive to make it 38-28 with 6:31 remaining in the third.
Armstead scored his fourth TD of the game with 9:02 left in the game, capping a 14-play, 83-yard drive, getting Temple within three at 38-35. BC sealed the victory with a touchdown with 3:11 to play. Glines' one-yard push into the endzone on 4th-and-goal extended the Eagles' lead to 45-35. Glines accounted for 43 of the 45 yards on the scoring drive.
