Enstrom Brace Lifts Eagles to Win Over Quinnipiac in Season Opener
August 24, 2018 | Men's Soccer
The senior scored both goals in the first half
HAMDEN, Conn. – Behind a brace from senior Simon Enstrom, the Boston College men's soccer team earned a 2-1 win over Quinnipiac in its season opener Friday afternoon at the Quinnipiac Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
Â
Boston College (1-0-0) staked a 2-0 lead at the half courtesy of the pair of goals from Enstrom. Quinnipiac (0-1-0) and BC were tied in shots in the opening stanza, 4-4, before the Bobcats went on to hold a 10-6 edge at the end of the game.
Â
The Eagles had the majority of chances in the first half, showing a dangerous ability to overlap and fire in crosses. The Bobcats had one header go just wide in each of the halves.
Â
Freshman Joe Fryatt made his collegiate debut, making one save in his complete game effort while Quinnipac's Chrys Iakovidis made one save in the loss. After Quinnipiac pulled within a goal with less than 10 minutes to play, the Eagles' defense buckled down. Fryatt braved traffic in the 88th minute to leap up and grab a long-distance cross.
Â
Boston College returns to action on Monday, Aug. 27, when it hosts rival Boston University at 4 p.m. at the Newton Campus Fields.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 12' | Boston College mustered a ball towards goal that then bounced in the penalty area before being picked up by a Quinnipiac defender. Enstrom charged hard and picked the pocket of the defender at the top of the box before curling a shot into the top left corner of the net.
- 30' |Â Enstrom earned his brace late in the half after the Eagles took advantage of some Quinnipiac defensive miscues. A failed clearance near the edge of the box was intercepted by Lasse Lehmann and he fed Enstrom about 15-yards out. Enstrom then lofted the ball hard and high into the top left corner of the net.
- 82' | On a ball crossed in from the right wing, Eamon Whelan chested it down and poked it towards the right side of the net, the opposite way of a lunging Fryatt.
