
Eagles to Host Colgate in Final Preseason Scrimmage on Saturday

The Raiders were ranked No. 25 in the national preseason rankings
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men's soccer team will play its final preseason tune-up on Saturday afternoon, hosting the Colgate Raiders for a 4 p.m. exhibition match.

Colgate, ranked No. 25 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll, is coming off back-to-back Patriot League titles. It will be a good test for the Eagles, as the Raiders are also fresh off an appearance in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. Down the stretch last year, Colgate won seven consecutive games, including twice on the road in the NCAA tournament, before bowing out to No. 4 Louisville. The Raiders were ranked No. 21 in the final United Soccer Coaches Poll (12-11-1 overall).

The Eagles scrimmaged the University of Massachusetts on Wednesday, Aug. 15, battling back for a 2-2 tie against the 2017 NCAA Tournament team. Fintan Devlin scored on a header off of a corner kick with just minutes to go. The squad continued with intrasquad 11-vs-11 work at practice on Friday.

Boston College boasts a 30-man roster heading into the 2018 season, including 13 new faces. In addition to 10 rookies, transfers David Longo, Ronaldinho Diniz and Joe Kellett have joined the Eagles.

Four of the top five scorers from a season ago are pulling the Maroon and Gold on once again, including leading-scorer Simon Enstrom. The captain notched 22 points on nine goals and four assists in 2017 and enters the season tied ninth overall in BC history with 56 points.

The Eagles open the season in earnest on Friday, Aug. 24 with a trip to Quinnipiac before hosting rival Boston University on Monday, Aug. 27.
