Second Varsity Eight, Varsity Four Win Petite Finals
CLEMSON, S.C. – The Boston College rowing team closed the 2017-2018 season with the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Sunday on Lake Hartwell. The Eagles competed against Virginia, Syracuse, Duke, Notre Dame, Louisville, Clemson, North Carolina, and Miami.
Head Coach Steve Fiske commented, "the Second Varsity Eight and the Varsity Four were the top finishing boats for our team and both of these crews showed a lot of grit to win their Petite Finals. We are going to miss our seniors, but we are very excited for the future. There are a lot of underclassmen in our top boats and the team is inspired to improve and make progress"
BC had a close race in the Second Varsity Eight Petite Final winning by 1.5 seconds. They led Clemson by a narrow margin for most of the race and expanded their lead in the last 250m in order to place first in the Petite Final ahead of Clemson and Miami. Â
In the Varsity Four Petite Final, BC was behind North Carolina for the first half of the race before pulling even and ahead to win by .4 seconds ahead of North Carolina and Miami.
The Second Varsity Four finished one place higher than its seed taking second place in the Petite Final with a time of 7:47.4 ahead of North Carolina. In the Varsity Eight and Third Varsity Eight, the Eagles finished in ninth place with times of 6:45.9 and 7:14.7, respectively.  Â
Senior Megan Lydon, who rowed in 5-seat of the Varsity Eight, was named to the ACC all-conference second team. Â
