Rowing Closes First Day at Sarasota 2k

SARASOTA, Fla. – The Boston College rowing team closed their first day of competition at the Sarasota 2k Friday afternoon.

It was a sunny morning with some clouds on Friday with a high of 85F and low of 69F. Winds were blowing N 10-20 mph.

The Eagles are set to race tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. in the Championship Women D1 2V4 Third Level Final, 9:40 a.m. in the Championship Women D1 V4 Petite Final, 10:10 a.m. in the Championship Women D1 2V8 Petite Final and at 11:10 a.m. in the Championship Women D1 V8 Petite Final.

The Eagles Varsity 4+ and Varsity 8+ both recorded a third place finish in their individual races. The V4+, coxed by Madelyn Stevens with rowers Jo McTamney, Vanessa Ksiazek, Leighton Davis and Chloe Wilkinson posted a course time of 3:50.1, less than eight seconds behind first place Dartmouth. The V8+, coxed by Caroline Jennings with rowers Sofia Martin, Lucy Barratt, Lauren Bauer, Molly Devine, Reagan Rock, Callaghan Nickerson, Lauren Craven and Ella Ryan recorded a course time of 3:20.0, less than five seconds behind first place Southern Methodist.

The Eagles Second Varsity 8+ recorded a fourth place finish with a course time of 3:30.0. The crew finished eight seconds behind SMU and nine seconds ahead of High Point's boat. The V8+ was coxed by Lucy Fortner with rowers Erin Smith, Kate Weitz, Lauren Schramm, Sylvia Freidenrich, Quinn Baker, Jennie Sherwood, Angela Devine and Olivia Hankey.

BC's Second Varsity 4+ crew recorded a fifth place finish, nearly 36 seconds ahead of last place Old Dominion. Coxed by Cassidy Ferron with rowers Beatrice Maxwell, Kirsten Thorn, Melinda Aznar Klein and Hannah Cochener, the crew posted a time of 4:02.7.
