Martinez Collects Five RBIs to Lift BC Over Notre Dame

The Eagles secured their fourth ACC series win of the season

Both teams went back and forth in the first two innings of the game with Notre Dame striking first in the first inning. BC added three runs in the bottom of the inning on singles by junior Lexi DiEmmanuele and senior Annie Murphy followed by a throwing error by the Irish catcher. Notre Dame had a three-run third inning off of three hits to take a 6-4 lead. The Eagles re-took the lead in the fourth when sophomore Olivia Markopoulos reached on a walk and advanced to second on sacrifice bunt by DiEmmanuele. With two outs, Murphy drew a walk. Freshman CC Cook reached on an error by the Notre Dame left fielder, allowing Markopoulos to score and the inning to continue. Martinez shot a three-run home run over the right field wall to give BC an 8-6 lead. The Eagles would add one more run in the sixth to secure a 9-6 victory.

Senior Jessica Dreswick started the game and pitched 2.1 innings with one strikeout. Redshirt junior Allyson Frei threw the remaining 4.2 innings, allowing only two hits and no runs while striking out three batters.

- DiEmmanuele stole her team-leading 18th bag of the season. She is second place on the BC all-time list with 72 career stolen bases. The junior also extended her hitting streak to four games.
- Murphy hit her eighth double of the season and her 39th two-bagger of her career. She and Sharabba are tied for first place in BC history with 39 career doubles.
- With two hits on the day, Murphy extended her hitting streak to 15 games. She has reached base safely in 19 straight games. The senior now has 16 multi-hit games on the season. This is the eighth time this season that Murphy has recorded two hits in a single game. With 206 career hits, she is just one hit shy of third place on the all-time list. Murphy also recorded her seventh multi-RBI game of the 2018 campaign.
- Senior Chloe Sharabba scored two runs on the day and leads the team in runs scored with 36.
- Junior Allyson Moore and freshman Cami Sellers both extended their hitting streaks to four games with one hit each on the day.
With the Eagles trailing 6-4 entering the fourth inning, Markopoulos reached on a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Murphy drew a walk to put runners on first and second with two outs. Cook hit a routine fly ball to left field, but the Notre Dame outfielder was unable to make the catch, allowing Cook to reach on the error and Markopoulos to score. Martinez blasted a three-run home run over the right field wall to give BC a lead that it would hold for the remainder of the game.
How it Happened:
- Abby Sweet reached on an error by Dreswick to start the game. She stole second and moved to third on a ground out. A sacrifice fly by Marino plated Sweet to put Notre Dame up 1-0 in the first inning.
- DiEmmanuele singled through the right side to lead off the bottom of the inning. She quickly stole second and Sharabba reached base on a walk to give BC runners on first and second with nobody out. Murphy hit a single up the middle to plate DiEmmanuele and advance Sharabba to third. Murphy stole second and Sharabba scored on a throwing error by the Notre Dame catcher. Martinez singled through the left side, allowing Murphy to score and giving BC a 3-1 lead.
- Cait Brooks led off the second inning with a walk. Melissa Rochford hit a double to right field to put runners on second and third. Dreswick forced a ground out and a line out, but a single up the middle by Alexis Bazos allowed both base runners to score, tying the score at three.
- Katie Marino led off the third inning with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Morgan Reed drew a walk. With one out, Rochford hit a deep single to right center to load the bases. MK Bonamy singled to right center, scoring Marino and Reed and Rochford advanced to third on the play. With the double steal on, Bonamy stole second and Rochford stole home to put the Irish up 6-4.
- Markopoulos drew a walk to lead off the fourth inning. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by DiEmmanuele. With two outs, Murphy reached on a walk. Cook reached on an error by the left fielder, allowing Markopoulos to score and Murphy to advance to second. Martinez blasted a three-run home run over the right field wall to give BC an 8-6 lead.
- The Eagles added a run in the sixth inning when Murphy reached on a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Martinez hit a single to right center, plating Murphy and putting BC up 9-6.  Â
