Dreswick Tosses Shutout in Win Over UMass

The right-hander tied the all-time win record at BC with her 55th career victory
AMHERST, Mass. – The Boston College softball team defeated Massachusetts, 5-0, behind a complete game, shutout by senior pitcher Jessica Dreswick. With the victory in her 100th game started as an Eagle, Dreswick tied the winningest pitcher in BC history, Alexis Beckman, with 55 career wins.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when senior Annie Murphy hit a double and freshman Emme Martinez reached on an error. A double by freshman CC Cook plated Murphy and a bunt single by junior Lexi DiEmmanuele allowed Martinez to score. In the following inning, singles by freshman Cami Sellers and senior Chloe Sharabba gave BC runners on first and second with one out. Another double by Murphy scored Sellers and Sharabba scored on a ground out by Martinez. Sharabba blasted a home run in the fourth inning to give BC a 5-0 lead that it would hold for the remainder of the game.

After collecting two hits on the day, Murphy has now reached the 200-hit milestone in her career, which is good for fourth place in BC history. She is also second all-time with 37 career doubles.

The Eagles have now won 14 of their last 16 contests.

BC returns to ACC action when they host Notre Dame at the Harrington Athletics Village at Brighton Fields with a three-game series beginning on Friday, April 20 at 6 p.m.

- With a win today, Dreswick has tied the winningest pitcher in BC history, Alexis Beckman (97'), with 55 wins all-time. The right-hander threw her 13th complete game of the season and the 41st of her career. Her 41 career complete games ties her with Allison Gage for fifth place in BC history. She also threw her fifth shutout of the season and the 10th of her career, which puts her in third place in BC history. With nine strikeouts on the day, Dreswick has now thrown nine or more strikeouts in a single game five times this season. The senior also held UMass senior Jena Cozza, the nation's leader in batting average at .521, to just one hit on the day.
- With a double in the first inning, Murphy extended her hitting streak to 12 games. She has now reached base safely in 16 straight games. She is tied for second on the team with seven doubles this season after picking up two on the day. This is her 12th multi-hit game of the season. After picking up two hits on the day, Murphy leads the team this season with 48 hits and she now has 200 career hits, which is good for fourth place in the BC record books. Also, with 37 career doubles, Murphy is tied with Tory Speer (14') for second place in BC history.
- Sharabba collected her team-leading sixth home run of the season in the fourth inning. With two other hits in the game, the senior has a team-leading 15 multi-hit games in the 2018 campaign.
- Freshman CC Cook picked up her third double in the season in the first inning.
- Emme Martinez has reached base safely in 12 consecutive games.

- BC jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when, with one out, Murphy blasted a double to the right field wall and freshman Martinez reached on an error by the UMass right fielder, putting runners on the corners for the Eagles. Cook slashed a double down the right field line, scoring Murphy. Two batters later, DiEmmanuele reached base on a bunt single, allowing Martinez to score and putting the Maroon and Gold up 2-0.
- Sellers led off the second inning with a pop-up single to right. Two batters later, Sharabba singled through the right side to give BC runners on second and third with one out. Murphy hit a double to the UMass shortstop, plating Sellers. Martinez grounded out to the shortstop, and Sharabba scored on the play to increase BC's lead to 4-0.
- With two outs in the fourth inning, Sharabba blasted a home run over the left field wall to give the Eagles a 5-0 advantage
- UMass posed its biggest threat of the game in the fifth inning when Kaitlyn Stavinoha reached on a bunt single and Hannah Bunker drew a walk. Riley Gregoire singled up the middle but DiEmmanuele made a heads up throw to senior Jordan Chimento to get the tag out of Stavinoha at home.
