Eagles Remain Perfect after Gritty Win over No. 17 Dartmouth

Arsenault, Apuzzo power the win to move to 15-0 on the season
NEWTON, Mass. – The No. 2 Boston College lacrosse team pulled out a 13-10 home win over No. 17 Dartmouth on Wednesday afternoon at the Newton Campus Field.

Boston College (15-0, 5-0 ACC) took an 11-5 edge into the halftime break but was held to just two goals in the second half.

However, BC held the Big Green scoreless down the stretch and added goals from Dempsey Arsenault and Sam Apuzzo, both coming after Dartmouth (7-3, 3-1 Ivy) pulled within a goal at 11-10 with 9:48 to play.

Lauren Daly made seven saves on the day, while Dartmouth's Kiera Vrindten made eight stops.

BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Dempsey Arsenault recorded her 12th hat trick of the season, with her first three goals coming in the first half … she also added four ground balls, three caused turnovers and six draw controls.
- Sam Apuzzo posted her 13th hat trick of the season and added her ninth multiple-assist game of the year … she also won eight draw controls and added two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- Defender Brooke Troy scored her first goal since March 2, a tally against Binghamton
- The Eagles finished their non-conference regular-season slate with a 10-0 record … included is a 4-0 record against ranked non-conference foes
- Overall, BC is now 8-0 against ranked teams so far this season
- The Eagles out-drew the Big Green, 17-8, in the game … Dartmouth came into the game ranked fourth nationally in draw controls, averaging 16.78 per game
- BC was a perfect 14-for-14 in clearance attempts
TURNING POINTS
- BC snapped its 17:12 scoreless run in the first half with a seven-goal run to close the first half and enter the break with a six-goal lead.
- In the second half, after Dartmouth erased the Eagles' six-goal lead and pulled within one goal at 11-10 with 9:48 to play, BC held the Big Green off the scoreboard the rest of the game and used Dempsey Arsenault's free-position conversion to re-claim a two-goal lead before Sam Apuzzo netted the insurance goal less than a minute later to make it the final 13-10
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Boston College jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 3:12 of the game, but Dartmouth rallied and held the Eagles off the board and mounted its own 5-0 run in the next 9:13 to take a 5-4 lead with 17:35 to go.
- Neither team scored for 8:01 before the Eagles responded with a 7-0 push to close the first, which included a string of free-position goals by Dempsey Arsenault, Kaileen Hart and Brooke Troy
- After BC came out of the half with the 11-5 lead, the Eagles were held off the board for the first 22:36 of the second half. During that defensive stand, Dartmouth cut the lead to 11-10 with 9:48 to play.
- BC forced four Dartmouth turnovers down the stretch and used goals by Arsenault and Apuzzo within 49 seconds to secure the win.
