
Eagles Overpower Syracuse with Two Wins in Day One

BC outscored the Orange 16-4 in the first two contests of the series
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Boston College softball team secured a series win over Syracuse as it defeated the Orange, 4-2, and, 12-2, at the Skytop Softball Stadium in Syracuse, N.Y. to extend its win streak to six games and improve to 5-3 in the ACC.

Both teams remained scoreless in the first game of the day through five innings. BC got the scoring started in the fifth when senior Jordan Chimento reached base on a bunt single that scored junior Lexi DiEmmanuele. After sophomore Olivia Markopoulos reached base on a hit by pitch, senior Annie Murphy hit a bases-clearing double to put the Eagles up 3-0. The Orange tacked on two runs in the bottom of the inning but it would not be enough, especially as BC added an insurance run in the sixth when junior Carly Severini reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch.
The bats exploded for BC in the second game of the day as the Eagles scored at least one run in every inning of the game except the first. The Maroon and Gold carried a 5-2 lead into the fifth inning, but a pair of two-run home runs by freshman Emme Martinez and senior Chloe Sharabba increased BC's lead to 9-2. The Eagles loaded the bases in the following inning and a bases-clearing single by Murphy secured a run-rule win for the Eagles.

Senior Jessica Dreswick gave a complete game five-hit performance while also recording six strikeouts in game one. Redshirt junior Allyson Frei had an equally strong second game of the day, allowing only four hits and two runs through six innings and recording nine strikeouts – the second most strikeouts recorded for the right-hander in a single game this season.
The Eagles will play the third and final game of the series against the Orange tomorrow, April 1 at noon.

With the Eagles holding a 2-1 lead entering the fourth inning, Martinez singled down the right field line. Sophomore Delaney Belinskas came in to pinch run. She stole second and advanced to a bag on a sacrifice bunt by Markopoulos. Sharabba drew a walk to put runners on the corners. Back-to-back singles by Murphy and Cook score two runs to give BC a more comfortable 4-1 lead. Syracuse would add one run in the bottom of the inning but a pair of two-run home runs in the fifth gave BC a commanding 9-2 lead.

BC Highlights:
- BC now has a 11-9 overall record vs. Cuse. The Maroon and Gold have won the last six meetings between the two teams. Historically, the Eagles have a 7-4 record when they play in N.Y. Â
- The six-game win streak is the longest of the season for the Eagles. The last time the Maroon and Gold earned six straight wins was when they won six consecutive games against UMass Lowell, Syracuse and Pittsburgh on April 28 – May 7 during the 2016 season.
- The victory in game two marks the second time this season that BC has run-ruled its opponent. The Eagles defeated Virginia, 8-0, in five innings on March 23.
- The 12 runs scored in the game is the most runs BC has scored in a single game this season. The Eagles have now recorded 10 or more hits in a game five times this season.
- Dreswick threw her 10th complete game of the season and her 38th career complete game, which is good for sole possession of seventh place in the BC record books.
- Frei recorded nine strikeouts on the day. It is the second time this season that she has thrown nine K's or more in a single game. She threw 11 strikeouts against FIU on Feb. 23. The right-hander has now thrown five complete games this season and 30 career complete games, which puts her in ninth place in the BC history books.
- Martinez notched her second home run of the season. She was a triple shy of the cycle in game two as she also reached base on a single and a double.
- Sharabba hit her third home run of the season, which is tied for the team lead. She now has 18 career home runs. With the home run in game two, the senior has collected a hit in 22 of the 30 games this season and has reached base safely in all but four games.
- Murphy led the team with four hits on the day, including one double and she also led the team with four RBIs.

How it Happened:
- Syracuse posed the first threat of the game in the first inning when it loaded the bases on two walks and a hit by pitch with only one out. Markopoulos made a heads up play by getting the force out at home on a ground out by the following batter and Dreswick forced a ground out to first to prevent the Orange from scoring.
- Syracuse put two runners on base in the fourth inning with two outs when Hannah Dossett reached base on a walk and Toni Martin singled to left field. Sammy Fernandez hit a single to right field but freshman CC Cook made an accurate throw home so that senior Jordan Chimento was able to tag out the runner and record the final out of the inning.
- DiEmmanuele led off the fifth inning with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Chimento laid down a bunt single that split the infielders and allowed DiEmmanuele to score. Markopoulos reached base on a hit by pitch and both base runners advanced a bag on a wild pitch to put two runners in scoring position for BC. With two outs, Murphy blasted a bases-clearing double to left center field to put BC up 3-0.
- Alicia Hansen led off the bottom of the inning with a triple to right center field. Bryce Holmgren reached first on a hit by pitch to put runners on the corners with no out. Lailoni Mayfield drew a walk to load the bases. Hansen scored on a fielder's choice by Neli Casares-Maher and Holmgren plated another run on a throwing error by Chimento to pull the Orange within one.
- Severini led off the sixth inning with a single to center field. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Cami Sellers. DiEmmanuele reached on a bunt single, allowing Severini to move to third. Severini scored on a wild pitch to increase the Eagles' lead to 4-2.
Game 2 Turning Point:

- The Orange responded in the bottom of the inning as Toni Martin reached on a walk and Hannah Dossett singled to right field to put runners on first and second with two outs. Casares-Maher hit a single to right to plate Martin and tie the score at 1-1.
- Sharabba drew a walk to lead off the third inning. Murphy reached base on a fielder's choice and stole second. A single to right field by freshman Cami Sellers plated Murphy to put BC up 2-1.
- In the fourth inning, Martinez singled down the right field line with one out and Belinskas came in to pinch run. Belinskas stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Markopoulos. Sharabba drew a walk to put runners on the corners for BC. Murphy singled up the middle, plating Belinskas. Cook followed with another single up the middle to score Sharabba. Severini then walked to load the bases. A walk by Sellers forced home Murphy to increase BC's lead to 5-1.
- Syracuse added a run in the bottom of the inning when Michala Maciolek doubled to center field. Another double by Casares-Maher scores Maciolek as the Orange pulled within three.
- Chimento led off the fifth inning with a hit by pitch. Martinez hit a home run that stayed just fair past the left field foul pole to put BC up 7-2. Markopoulos reached base on a walk. Sharabba blasted a home run over the left field wall to increase the Eagles' lead to 9-2.
- With one out in the sixth inning, Chimento drew a walk and Markopoulos also reached on a walk. Sharabba was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two out. Murphy hit a bases-clearing single to center field to put BC up 12-2 and end the game.
