Dreswick Tosses Complete Game Shutout in Win Over CCSU

MIAMI, Fla. – The Boston College softball team shut out Central Connecticut State, 1-0, behind a complete game, four-hit performance by senior pitcher Jessica Dreswick. The right-hander tied her career-high with 11 strikeouts in the game.

The Eagles scored the lone run of the game in the third inning when a sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly drove home freshman Gianna Randazza, who reached base on a hit by pitch. The Blue Devils threatened in the sixth inning when a single and an error put two runners on base, but they were unable to score.

BC finished its weekend at the FIU Classic with a 2-3 record and now stands at 5-9 overall. The Eagles have the following weekend off and will next play Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss. on Tuesday, March 6.

BC Highlights:
- Dreswick recorded five strikeouts through three innings, striking out five of the first nine batters she faced. The right-hander tied her career high with 11 total strikeouts in the game, marking the second time this season that she has struck out 11 batters in a single game (Nebraska on Feb. 16). The senior is now in sole possession of ninth place in the BC record books with 30 career complete games. Dreswick is also now tied for third in BC history with seven career shutouts. Today's shutout is her second of the 2018 season. Â
- This victory over CCSU marks the third shutout of the season for BC and the second of the weekend. The first time the Eagles held the opponent scoreless was against Nebraska on Feb. 18.
- With a single in the first inning, senior Chloe Sharabba has now reached base safely in 12 of the 14 games this season. The co-captain finished two-for-three on the day and leads the team in hits this season with 17.
- BC now leads the all-time series against CCSU 2-0. The Eagles earned their first win when they defeated the Blue Devils, 8-0, in 2010.
- Junior Carly Severini and freshman Emme Martinez each picked up one hit on the day.
Randazza reached base on a hit by pitch in the third inning and advanced to second on a passed ball. A sacrifice bunt followed by a sacrifice fly allowed Randazza to score the only run of the game as Dreswick held CCSU scoreless through seven innings.
How it Happened:
- Randazza reached base on a hit by pitch to lead off the third inning and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Senior Jordan Chimento laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Randazza over to third base with one out. Junior Lexi DiEmmanuele hit a sacrifice fly to center field to drive home Randazza and give BC a 1-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Brittany Camara singled through the left side, but was caught stealing and Giuliana Hathaway drove a single to center field to reach base with two outs. Sydney Bolan reached on an error to advance Hathaway and put the winning run on base. Dreswick forced the following batter to ground out to prevent the Blue Devils from scoring and maintain the Eagles' lead.
