Taylor Ortlepp's 25-Point Effort Not Enough In Loss
December 09, 2018 | Women's Basketball
Eagles lose to No. 14/18 Minnesota, 77-69
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Despite a season-high 25 points from junior Taylor Ortlepp, Boston College fell to No. 14/18 Minnesota, 77-69, on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference battle at Conte Forum.
Boston College is now 8-2 and will host in-state rival Boston University on Sunday at 4 p.m. Minnesota improved to 9-0 and will host Coppin State on Wednesday.
Junior Taylor Ortlepp hit 6-for-11 from the three-point line and had 11 of her 25 points in the third quarter to give the Eagles a 54-53 heading into the final 10 minutes. She hit three three-three-pointers in the quarter, while Georgia Pineau had five points as the Eagles outscored Minnesota, 25-17, to take the one point lead.
After a layup by Pineau at 7:38, BC held a four-point lead in the fourth quarter. Minnesota went on a 9-0 run as BC had several turnovers which hindered the offense. Ortlepp ended the Gophers run with her fifth three-pointer with 45 seconds to play in the game. The Minnesota lead was just four points.
That would be the closest BC would get as Destiny Pitts (35 points, six rebounds) would make 11 free throws in the quarter, seven in the final 45 seconds of the game to seal the win.
Ortlepp hit her first three-pointer at the end of the first quarter as BC was down just three-points, 20-17. The second quarter, Minnesota had an 8-0 run to take a nine-point lead with two minutes to play. BC stayed within seven points at the half, 36-29, behind an Ortlepp three and a layup by Taylor Soule (eight points, five rebounds) to end the first half.
