Eagles Compete at Howlin’ Husky Invitational

BC earns two individual first place finishes.
ROXBURY, Mass. – The Boston College women's track and field team competed in its second indoor meet of the season on Saturday, closing out the fall semester at the Howlin' Husky Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.
Top finishes on the day included a first-place finish in the 1000-meter run by Gianna Bender. Julia Lyons finished first in the long jump and also took second in the 60-meter dash. Both of the marks were personal records for Lyons while her 60 meter time ranks second all-time in BC history. On the day, the Eagles had 15 individual/relay teams finish in the top 10.

On the Oval
- In the 1000-meter run, Gianna Bender led the way for the Eagles. The senior's final push earned her a time of 2:51.64 and the top spot, edging out Northeastern's Amy Piccolo (2:51.68). A pair of BC rookies finished in third and fourth, with Katherine Mitchell running a 2:59.56 for third and Anna Harmon a 3:00.61 for fourth.
- Katherine Stanwood used a 5:14.06 to finish fifth in the mile.
- In the 60-meter hurdles, Emma Taylor took seventh in 9.34.
- In the 60-meter dash, Julia Lyons finished second with a 7.81 in the finals.
- Monica Heil finished eighth in the 200 (26.35) and Emma Kinney also grabbed a top-15 finish, using a 27.01 for 14th. Hannah McNeil ran a 27.65 for 22nd.
- The 400-meter dash saw Abigail Gothers take third in 59.79 and Taylor finish fifth in 1:00.67. McNeil finished just outside the top 10, placing 11th with a 1:03.92.
- Jessica Creedon finished sixth in the 500, running a 1:18.32 while Sierra Tonnesen was ninth in 1:19.63.
- The 4x800 meter relay team of Mitchell, Stanwood, Harmon and Bender ran a 9:27.90 for first.
- Lyons that got things started in the field for BC. The junior's leap of 19'3.5" in the long jump finals earned her the top podium spot. Creedon's mark of 17'4.25" placed sixth.
- Emily Barron's heave of 27' in the shot put was good for 17th.
- Gothers would go on to finish tied for second in the high jump after clearing 5'3" on her third attempt.
- The Eagles return to action in 2019 with a pair of meets Jan. 11-12, competing at the Harvard Multi Meet (Jan. 11) and the Beantown Challenge (Jan. 12).
