27th Annual Baseball Night in Boston: Jan. 24, 6-9 p.m. at Fenway Park.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College baseball team has scheduled its 27th Annual Baseball Night in Boston for January 24 from 6-9 p.m. at the State Street Pavilion at Fenway Park. The event serves as the team's largest fundraiser and will feature guests from ESPN baseball broadcasts; Jon Sciambi (BC '92), Buster Olney and Karl Ravech.
"Baseball Night is pivotal to our program's operation and directly contributes to every aspect of the program from providing the best student-athlete experience to competing in the toughest conference in the country," ninth-year head coach Mike Gambino said.
Sciambi, a 1992 graduate of Boston College's Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences, joined ESPN full time in 2010 as the play-by-play voice for MLB on ESPN radio. He got his start in broadcasting at BC's student-run WZBC as an undergraduate calling football, basketball and hockey games. Sciambi began calling MLB games and college basketball games for ESPN in 2005. Beginning with the 2014 baseball season, he became the regular voice of Wednesday Night Baseball telecasts. Sciambi previously called Atlanta Braves games on television from 2007-09 and Florida Marlins games on the radio from 1997-2004.
"We are extremely excited to welcome the crew of Baseball Tonight, all of whom have strong New England ties, for the event," added Gambino. "Boog Sciambi is a BC grad and has been instrumental in his support for ALS awareness. Buster Olney grew up in Vermont and Karl Ravech is from Needham. It's a great opportunity to bring them around our program for a fantastic night celebrating baseball at the home of the World Series Champions."
Olney is a senior writer and on-air personality for ESPN, including his work as a reporter on Sunday Night Baseball broadcasts. He covered baseball at various newspapers beginning in 1989 before joining ESPN in 2003. Ravech serves as the primary host of ESPN's MLB studio and pre-game show Baseball Tonight, which airs every Sunday during the MLB season. He has also worked the College World Series and Little League World Series for the network in a play-by-play capacity.
Proceeds from Baseball Night go toward the cost of the team's early-season trips outside of New England to play out a challenging schedule that covers a national footprint in preparation for ACC competition. Funds raised from the event also contribute to annual operating expenses, including recruiting, equipment and scholarships.
Financial support for the BC baseball program and Baseball Night can be made through the purchase of tickets as well as sponsorship opportunities for the event. Independent financial contributions and auction item donations are also essential to the evening. Donated items such as tickets to sporting or non-sporting event, autographed balls, pictures and jerseys, along with many other items will be auctioned off the night of the event.
Tickets cost $175 until Dec. 31 and increase to $200 on Jan. 1. Supporters purchasing tickets prior to Jan. 1 have the option to add an exclusive Under Armour BC Birdball long sleeve shirt for $40.
Baseball Night is made possible thanks to the generosity of BC baseball's supporters. A $5,000 gift includes up to 10 tickets, parking passes and access to the VIP reception with the featured guests from ESPN. A $2,500 gift includes up to four tickets as well as an insiders tour of Fenway with exclusive access to the club houses and press box. A $1,000 gift includes two tickets and an exclusive BC baseball gear package (up to four items).
