Meet the Birdball Class of 2022

After recently completing the first fall ball season at the Harrington Athletics Village, Boston College head baseball coach Mike Gambino officially announced the addition of 11 freshmen for the 2018-19 academic year. The Eagles brought in six pitchers and five position players for the upcoming season. BC's latest class of recruits is made up of a national footprint stretching from Massachusetts to California.

"As a group, we're excited about this class," said Gambino. "Now that they've been on campus, they believe so much in who we are as a university; the things we talk about in our culture and in our program. They are really obsessed with working, getting better and being great kids and teammates."

THE BIRDBALL FRESHMEN:

#18 Peter Burns, C
B/T: L/R | Ht.: 5-10 I Wt.: 195 I Hometown: Reading, Mass.
Bio: Played at Austin Prep and hit .401 over his career with 115 hits and 89 RBI... two-time Boston Herald and Boston Globe All-Scholastic pick... Rawlings/Perfect Game All-New England First Team and All-America Honorable Mention as a senior... named Catholic Central League All-Star all four seasons and league MVP in 2017 and 2018... part of 2018 Division 3 State Championship... featured in Sports Illustrated "Faces In the Crowd" on Aug. 24, 2015 after throwing out 10 runners and hitting .467 for the New England Stampede at the Perfect Game 15-U wood bat nationals... played two seasons for Northeast Baseball (2016-17) and four years with the Stampede (2012-15)... played varsity hockey as a freshman and sophomore, while helping team to league championships.

Scouting Report: Leadership qualities of a quality ACC-level catcher… hands, feet and arm all play at this level… toughness to block baseballs and keep the ball in front of him… really good at working with pitchers… left-handed bat… defensive-minded catcher with a chance to hit and provide some pull power.

#11 Sal Frelick, IF/OF
B/T: L/R | Ht.: 5-10 I Wt.: 175 I Hometown: Lexington, Mass.
Bio: Totaled 12 varsity letters in three sports at Lexington High School as he was twice named a captain for the football, hockey and baseball teams... named the Boston Globe Athlete of the Year as a senior... posted 115 hits, seven home runs, 50 stolen bases and 95 runs in his high school career... earned Gatorade Player of the Year in football for the state of Massachusetts... two-time Middlesex League MVP in football and one-time MVP in baseball... played for the North Shore Navigators of the Futures Collegiate League in the summer of 2018... named the FCBL Top Pro Prospect and a Futures League All-Star as a .361 hitter with seven homers, 36 RBI and 22 steals.

Scouting Report: Middle of the field utility with speed that plays at shortstop, second base and center field… premium athlete that had a strong summer… three-sport athlete… power potential.

#12 Ramon Jimenez, IF
B/T: R/R | Ht.: 6-4 I Wt.: 225 I Hometown: Chicopee, Mass.
Bio: Four-year starter at Chicopee High School... earned all-league and all-state as a junior and senior... hit .450 in his senior season... played four years of basketball and made all-league and All-Western Mass as a senior.

Scouting Report: Right-handed hitting shortstop that will play on the corners early in his career… big power to all fields… tremendous hands… above average arm.

#45 Travis Lane, RHP
B/T: L/R | Ht.: 6-3 I Wt.: 225 I Hometown: Georgetown, Mass.
Bio: Four-year starter at Phillips Academy... named to the Perfect Game USA All-Northeast Region First Team as a senior... earned Central New England Prep School League playoff MVP as a sophomore... went 8-1 with a 1.54 ER and 56 strikeouts in 40.2 innings asa senior... posted a 4-0 record and did not allow an earned run in 21.1 innings as a junior... picked up the Ted Harrison for the team's best overall player and leader as a senior... started at quarterback for the varsity football team as a freshman.

Scouting Report: Younger brother of senior RHP Thomas Lane… three-pitch, competitive strike-thrower… good sink on his fastball… groundball pitcher… makings of two plus-secondary pitches.

#44 Joe Mancini, RHP
B/T: L/R | Ht.: 6-1 I Wt.: 190 I Hometown: Fairfield, Conn.
Bio: Played three years of varsity baseball at Fairfield Prep... helped team to 2017 SCC Championship... earned All-SCC, CHSCA All-State and New Haven Register All-Area as a senior in 2018... named to the 2018 CT High School Baseball Senior and 2017 Junior All-Star Teams... went 7-0 with a 0.88 ERA and 53 strikeouts as a senior... also played hockey for three varsity seasons; helping team to two conference championships and the 2018 state championship as the tournament MVP.

Scouting Report: Pitch-ability right-hander…87-89 fastball with really good life… plus-spin, plus-change-up… confident in who he is on the mound… can move the ball around and change speeds… good feel for pitching.

#7 Cody Morissette, IF
B/T: L/R | Ht.: 6-0 I Wt.: 175 I Hometown: Exeter, N.H.
Bio: Earned four varsity letters at Exeter High School... served as a team captain in his junior and senior seasons... named USA Today First Team All-State as a junior and senior... picked up All-State First Team honors as a sophomore, junior and senior as well as Division I Player of the Year recognition in 2017... guided team to back-to-back state championships in 2017 and 2018... hit .434 with a .560 OBP as a senior, finishing his career with 99 hits... went 19-1 on the mound with a 1.21 ERA throughout his career... additionally played for the NEB Rays (2017) and NH Bobcats (2013-16)... four-year varsity basketball player... scored 1,300 career points, while earning all-league and all-state honors... played three years of varsity football; earning all-league and all-state... member of the National Honors Society.

Scouting Report: Premium defender… really good athlete, hands and feet… left-handed hitter with gap power.

#27 Mason Pelio, RHP
B/T: R/R | Ht.: 6-4 I Wt.: 215 I Hometown: San Diego, Calif.
Bio: Named 2018 Rawlings/PerfectGame Honorable Mention All-America... helped Rancho Bernardo to a 28-5 record and division title as a senior... rated as the No. 364 draft prospect by Baseball America coming out of high school... pitched four games for the Nashua Silver Knights of the Futures Collegiate League prior to arriving at BC.

Scouting Report: Fastball runs up to 95… pitch-ability with two-and-a-half pitches; working on developing a change-up… ball jumps out of his hand… great worker.

#15 Emmet Sheehan, RHP
B/T: R/R | Ht.: 6-5 I Wt.: 200 I Hometown: Darien, Conn.
Bio: Pitched final two seasons at the Salisbury School (Conn.) following two season with Fordham Prep (N.Y.)... went 7-0 with a 0.35 ERA and 51 strikeouts, while earning team MVP and WNEPBL Young Division Pitcher of the Year as a senior... posted a 4-1 record and 1.64 ERA as a junior... twice earned All-WNEPBL in 2017 and 2018... helped team to conference championship as a senior... Futures League All-Star with the Bristol Blues in the summer of 2018... additionally played for the CT Blue Jays (2015-17)... played varsity basketball as a senior.

Scouting Report: Coming off a good summer… up to 92 with his fastball with a feel for secondary pitches… has ability to start or pitch out of the pen… has starter command and swing-and-miss stuff of a reliever.

#33 Samrath Singh, LHP

Bio: Three-year varsity player at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South... 2018 Northeast Region Honorable Mention from Perfect Game... played for South Jersey Elite for one season... earned a varsity letter in basketball as a senior... member of the National Math Honors Society.

Scouting Report: Smart on and off the field… tremendous worker… lower-slot lefty with really good life on his fastball… plus-slider and developing a change-up… big-time, impact stuff.

#16 Ryan Smith, LHP
B/T: L/L | Ht.: 5-10 I Wt.: 170 I Hometown: Tarrytown, N.Y.
Bio: Prepped for a season at Trinity Pawling after previously graduating from Hackley School... served as the team captain at Trinity Pawling in 2018... threw a no-hitter at Hackley as a three-year varsity player; twice earning all-league and serving as a senior captain.

Scouting Report: Undersized, quick-armed left-hander… ball jumps and is up to 91… can spin a breaking ball… fastball plays better than the velocity.

#4 Lucas Stalman, UT
B/T: R/R | Ht.: 5-9 I Wt.: 175 I Hometown: Bedford Hills, N.Y.
Bio: Attended The Hackley School before spending three seasons at The King School... hit .512 and earned All-NYSAIS First Team before transferring... hit .475 as a sophomore, .493 as a junior and .541 with five home runs as a senior... earned All-FAA and First Team All-New England in all three seasons at The King School.

Scouting Report: Super utility player with options and flexibility in the lineup… potential to contribute at catcher, infield and outfield… really good baseball player… sum of the parts is greater than each individual tool… surprising power.
