No. 4 Boston College Tops UConn on the Road
November 16, 2018 | Women's Hockey
Olivia Finocchiaro nets her first career goal as one of three goal scorers, Maddy McArthur earns third shutout of the season.
STORRS, Conn. – The No. 4/4 Boston College women's hockey team had three different goal scorers and freshman Maddy McArthur made 17 saves for her third shutout of the season on Friday night as the Eagles topped UConn, 3-0, at the Freitas Ice Forum. Olivia Finocchiaro scored her first career goal for BC while Makenna Newkirk and Caitrin Lonergan also found the back of the net.
McArthur helped keep it scoreless at the midway point of the opening frame, making a blocker save on Catherine Crawley's breakaway wrist shot bid. With 4:05 on the clock, Lonergan's 50th career goal gave BC one-goal edge. Early in the second, McArthur made a post-to-post save to keep that 1-0 lead intact. A series of shots from the point later in the period also got padded away by the freshman and cleared out of danger by the Eagles' defense.
Four minutes into the final frame, UConn nearly found the equalizer off a turnover in the zone but as Danika Pasqua was fed for a wide-open look at the left post, McArthur stretched out and flashed the glove to keep the puck out. The Eagles offense came to life once again late in the period, with Newkirk and Finocchiaro potting goals over the final 10 minutes to ice the game.
McArthur finished with 17 saves on 17 shots while Morgan Fisher had 32 stops on 35 shots for the Huskies. Each team was whistled for two penalties.
