BC Remains Unbeaten At Home With Win Over Louisville
October 13, 2018 | Football
Eagles now 4-0 at Alumni Stadium in 2018.
Offensively, the Eagles (5-2; 2-1 ACC) had two rushers pass the 100-yard mark, as true freshman David Bailey rushed for a career-high 112 yards (28 carries), while Ben Glines added 107 yards (17 carries). Anthony Brown was 16-for-22 on the afternoon, passing for 179 yards and a touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, BC was dominant - tallying seven sacks for 43 yards and 12 tackles for a loss, accounting for 54 yards. Isaiah McDuffie led the way with eight tackles (six solo), while Zach Allen had seven (three solo). Wyatt Ray registered three sacks on the afternoon for a loss of 20 yards.
After winning the toss and electing to receive, Louisville went three-and-out on its first drive. BC took over at the Cardinals' 45-yard line. The Eagles orchestrated their first score of the afternoon five plays later, capped by a 26-yard strike to redshirt freshman tight end Hunter Long.
Another Louisville three-and-out setup the Eagles' second TD. Ben Glines - again filling in for the injured All-American running back AJ Dillon - found the end zone from two yards out, making it 14-0 with 9:00 left in the opening quarter.
The Cardinals got on the scoreboard with 3:44 left in the first after Malik Cunningham extended the ball across the plane from a yard out. The extra-point was blocked by Allen, making it 14-6. UofL forced a fumble from Glines at the BC six-yard line to start the drive.
BC fumbled the ensuing kickoff, as Michael Walker had the ball stripped from him at the BC 25-yard line, setting up another short-yardage scoring opportunity for the Cardinals. A three-yard run by Hassan Hall brought Louisville within one - 14-13 - with 1:37 left in the first.
The Eagles engineered a turnover to open the second quarter. After Zach Allen made a tackle in the backfield for a loss of four, Hamp Cheevers picked off Jawon Pass at the UofL 33-yard line. But BC was unable to convert on fourth-down, giving UofL the ball at its own 27-yard line.
The Cardinals took their first lead of the game after a nine-play, 73-yard drive, capped off by a three-yard keeper from Pass, making it 20-14 with 9:37 left in the first half.
BC took the lead back after junior Nolan Borgersen blocked a Louisville punt and freshman Travis Levy recovered in the end zone, making it 21-20 with 3:42 to go in the half. A 38-yard field goal from senior Colton Lichtenberg near the end of the half made it 24-20 at the break.
The BC lead was extended to 31-20 after Bailey plowed through the Louisville defensive line at the from the one with 10:30 remaining. Senior wideout Jeff Smith tacked on another score with 3:34 to go, reversing direction and reaching over the left pylon from five yards out. The drive covered eight plays and 67 yards, and made it 38-20.
