CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College football team won its second-straight game, defeating Maine on Saturday by a score of 22-16 at Alumni Stadium.
Â
Mason McKenzie finished 14-for-21 with 173 passing yards with one touchdown along with 53 yards rushing. Evan Dickens finished with 102 yards on the ground with a 39-yard touchdown run, while Johnathan Montague Jr. had five catches for 72 yards and a touchdown.
Â
On the defensive side of the ball, KP Price picked off two passes for the first-multi interception game of his career. Anthony Palano led all players with 12 tackles and Demetrius Ballard had two sacks.Â
Â
The special teams unit for BC wasted little time making an impact in the game as Syair Torrence forced a fumble that was recovered by Juan Zabal.
Â
Dickens opened the scoring for the Eagles with a 39-yard rushing touchdown, his longest rush as an Eagle, early in the first quarter.
Â
The defense came up with a huge effort towards the end of the first quarter as they forced a safety. KJ Sampson had a QB hurry and drew a holding penalty on the Maine offensive line in the endzone, resulting in a safety and two points for Boston College.
Â
BC immediately took advantage once they got the ball back after the safety, quickly running a four-play drive that ended with McKenzie finding Montague Jr. in the endzone for a 31-yard touchdown.
Â
Maine chipped away at the Boston College lead during the second quarter, hitting a field goal and a touchdown, while Luca Lombardo made one field goal, to make it a 19-10 game at halftime.
Â
Lombardo struck his second field goal of the afternoon during the third quarter to push the lead to 12.
Â
Late in the fourth quarter, Maine put together an 11-play, 80-yard drive that culminated in a seven-yard touchdown pass from Buehler to Laughlin. However, Micah Amedee blocked the PAT to hold a six-point lead with under five minutes remaining.
Â
Boston College ran out the final 4:31 of the game with three first downs to hold on for the win.
Â
The Eagles finish their three-game homestand next Saturday against Virginia Tech for Family Weekend. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m. and the TV designation will be confirmed in the coming days.
