Eagles take a break from Hockey East play to face Harvard
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The second-ranked Boston College women's hockey team takes a quick break from Hockey East play on Tuesday night, Jan. 16, when the Eagles host Harvard in a non-conference game at Kelley Rink. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on ESPN3, which is available at WatchESPN.com and via the ESPN app.
Boston College (19-2-3, 13-1-3 HEA) is coming off a weekend split with Northeastern, losing at home on Friday night before taking a 5-4 overtime win at Matthews Arena on Saturday behind Toni Ann Miano's career-high four goals.
Harvard (8-7-1, 6-5-1 ECAC) comes to Chestnut Hill after a tough road weekend that included a 3-2 loss at No. 4 Colgate on Friday and a 4-3 defeat at No. 6 Cornell on Saturday. Overall, Harvard enters the game having dropped its last three overall.
The teams met once already this season with Boston College claiming an 8-1 road win at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center on Nov. 22. Twelve different Eagles picked up points in the win, including a pair of three-point efforts from both Caitrin Lonergan and Makenna Newkirk in the game. The Eagles posted a 4-0 lead before Harvard's Haley Mullins notched a power-play goal to get the Crimson on the board. BC closed the game with four more goals.
The Crimson are led offensively this season by several underclassmen, highlighted by freshman Becca Gilmore, who has a team-high 17 points. Sophomore Kat Hughes has posted 16 points, including a team-best nine goals, while freshman Brooke Jovanovich has 13 points, sophomore Val Turgeon 11 and Mullins with 10.
In goal, sophomore Beth Larcom has seen the majority of time, posting a 2.56 goals against average, a .910 save percentage to go with her 8-6-1 record.
Following the midweek game, Boston College will return to the ice this weekend with a pair of home games at Kelley Rink against Vermont on Friday and Saturday. The teams will face off at 7 p.m. on Friday, before they play at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Following Saturday's game, the Eagles will host the popular – and free – Skate with the Eagles event. Both of this weekend's games will be streamed live on ESPN3.
